I have a later model EFI 460 and AOD out of a box van that I have thought about putting I my 61 Starliner. The problem is that this engine has a "Snorkel" that rises about 7" above the valve covers and that is to high for a stock hood to close.
I really do not care to cut the hood or have a hood scoop so I have thought about removing the Snorkel device and replacing it with something shorter. I do not know if another 460 would have a shorter system, if so that may be an option?
It looks like a person could just have a box made of aluminum for the top of the manifold that would replace the Snorkel? As this is a dry manifold it should only be air dependent?
Has anyone done anything like this? Anyone know of a site to ask these type of questions?
Thanks for any help.

This is meant to produce a tuned induction effect in the intake.  Shortening the runners will probably reduce bottom end torque slightly but it may be hardly measurable.  Yes, I'd just make a box to go on top of the lower manifold.
