does anybody know of a manufacturer of a steel roll pan for the front of a 47-53 chevy PU?
brothers lists 'glass ones but....

I know there's a lot of rear pans available for pick-up trucks over your side of the Pacific. Maybe there's one that will fit with little work, I think some even have a license plate recess already installed.

Another option is to check the oldies at your locak recycling 9there's no such thing as junk) yard and see what's there that might do the job with little work to make it fit and look right.

carps, that'd take some SERIOUS work to make a rear pan fit the front on these...need 3 of 'em and i'm definatly not a sheet metal man.

http://catalog.mar-k.com/ You need to put the information for your truck into this online catalog and it will show the different pans they offer for these trucks. My brother used one and he liked it.

I did not read very closely did I. I read rear when you clearly stated front. Sorry. I do not think they make a front pan.

I like the look of adding another bottom grille bar turned upside down and welded to the bottom of the bottom bar.

I made my own panel below the grille and my bumper out of fiberglass. I made the bumper shorter than stock (side to side). I needed to bring the bumper back in towards the grille and when I did this it no longer wraps around the edge of the front fenders. I have a tilt glass front and I need to have less distance so the front could tilt up. I make a lot of stuff out of fiberglass.

yeah, there's lots of glass ones out there but i prefer metal if at all possible.

as far as the lower bar turned upside down,it ain't up to me....
customers cars, ya know.

I have seen hand fabbed pans done by using a doner hood from the same vintage truck and forming the rest by hand. I am not aware of any available pans in steel. If you are handy with metal, it can easily be accomplished. rj

This is a good time for hammerforming. make a form from hardwood, or HDFB, and bend the metal over it. You can do amazing compound curves this way. you can probably do it in three pieces.

As you get into this fabrication here's a treat for you. My un-fendered '51 pick-up is going to leave me with two marginal fenders and the lower edge of the hood (3" ? all around) that I can contribute to your project. The fender fronts are passable but the headlight mounting surface is gone and there are holes in the top where there were clearance lights mounted for directional lights. The fenders were for a half ton and I offered them to someone here for the wheel radius to disquise the one ton wheel radius on the fenders that he was going to use. Moved them out of my garage so I had room to work on my frame's rear springs and unless someone speaks up and if they aren't wanted for the RRT barbeque trailer. Their next trip will be to the crusher. GPster
