GMC Intake question

I purchased a 97 350 'r' motor for a 1995 GMC 4X4 truck with a 350 'k' motor, the engine did not have an intake manafold on it.  The mechanic stated that my intake on the old engine would not work on the newer engine.  But, they do make an intake that will allow you to keep the TBI setup currently on the engine and will bolt up to the new engine.  Anyone have any information/experience with this?

Also, does anyone know how much more difference in  power/torque there is between the two different years of motors?
