I'm not familiar with vdo but I have 2 other gps speedos. They require 12v. positive and negative and the sender plug in. I found this:
https://www.vdo-gauges.com/media/instructions/A2C59519787%20GPS%20Speed%20Sender%20.pdf
It shows red and black for 12v. Green and white depending which speedo you are using.

how many terminals? 8 on the speedo, 4 coming out of the gps unit

VDO sending unit? yes

ok, here's the deal for anybody else using these and have the instructions;
use the electronic speedo sender wiring diagram you get to download and print out, next, throw away their instructions and use the "pulse" setting and set to 200,000 pulses and go drive to make sure it works and you're done
