Any recommendation for the manifold end seals??

I was going to use a approx 1/4" bead of Permatex RTV Ultra.  Trying to clean up a small weep of oil at the rear of engine.  There was a large leak there that was a result of someone using the wrong compression sleeve on the line resulting in it cutting thru the wall of the tube.  Glad that was caught in time.

I always use silicone , it will not slip out of place like the cork can. Also , if there has been any milling of heads or intake or both , the cork may be too thick and cause a vacuum or coolant leak . my $.02

This one works great. It is not slick like silicone and stays put. I use it on the ends instead of the rubber gaskets.

Thanks for the info.

The reason I was asking. Last winter I built a 283 for a future project. .030 over/flat tops, power pac heads. The machine shop took .010 off both sides of the deck to clean up and square up. And one head needed .026 and the other less than .010 taken off to flatten and clean up.

I bought a used intake from a friend (cheap) It is a Wieand Stealth.  I have the motor on a run stand. I have two problems. #1 I can't get a water leak to stop at or below the thermostat housing. One of the threaded holes for the thermostat housing was a little messed up, looks like it was over tightened. I think there is a hair line crack in the intake that I can not see.

#2 When the motor is running there is a small amount of oil seepage coming from the valley at the middle of the intake not the ends but below the carb area. Intake bolts are tight. PCV valve. It was a road draft motor but I have a breather in one valve cover  and PCV valve plumbed to the vacuum port on carb in the other valve cover.

So not knowing how many motors the intake has been on over the years and if it was used and abused I bought a new intake. A Edelbrock Performer.

I don't think the amount the machine shop took off the deck and heads would cause any problems. What do you think? The intake was a long way from hitting the end rails of the block. The Wieand Stealth intake is a old intake. They are not made any longer. It is not a intake that was reworked to fit on a Vortex motor. The angles are correct.

I have read somewhere that Felpro makes a thicker set of intake gaskets. Do I need those?

What do you guys think about all this?

Thanks Mike

The rubber end seals can cause some aluminum intakes to bend up on the ends causing coolant and vacuum leaks, particularly single plane manifolds. If there is plenty of room on the ends, you might take a clean up cut on the head surfaces of the manifold to make sure it's straight there. You can Helicoil the buggered up thermostat hole. Felpro makes a O ring type thermostat gasket, part number 2202.
