From what I have been told they are basicly a C-4 with a lock up converter,I am thinking about trying one in my next projects that will have a highway gear to see how one is. A friend has on in a 83 fox body LTD with a 3.8 but just what others got that trans and what years were they made,I do have a couple AODs but with a C-5 there is probably no TV cable to worry about.

1982 & up were the C5 trans. Fairmonts, F-100 trucks, etc.  I dont remember much on the operation of the lockup...  We usually had the converter clutch removed from the converter for normal operation.

The lockup is centrifugal  operation, with an aux valve body section on the main valve body inside the pan. Lockup clutch  was failure prone.  Usually the clutch applied tooo low speed & RPM

Bell housing must match the C5 converter since it is larger (deeper)

If thats the case I will stick with a AOD.
