We're going to be in Austin, TX the last weekend in August, Dallas Mon/Tue/Wed nights, and Shreveport for about 3 days after that. Does anyone have recommendations of what to do in those areas?

Austin is full of live music so that's where my mind would be. :)

I lived in both Dallas and Shreveport areas for over five years apiece but all that was over twenty years ago. Not much help I reckon. They didn't even have casino boats on the Red then and I wasn't visiting so... Maybe I will think of something. Last I knew, Dallas had a decent zoo and good museums but you're probably wanting tips on nifty car stuff.

I knew a dancer named Dallas once.

Most people have a higher than average number of legs.

My wife is from there originally. If you want to look at things that are not automotive related I would suggest the Sixth Floor Museum. Walking around in Dealey plaza was an experience I would not want to pass up if I had not done it already. Then there is Old City Park. Bishop Arts District is a sort of bohemian marketplace we have visited several times. Lots of unique products and restaurants are in the area.

If you are looking for good places to eat you need to check out Babe's Chicken Dinner House(Mulitple Locations) for chicken dinner, El Fenix for Mexican (Mulitple Locations) and Lockhart Smokehouse for BBQ and finally The Celebration for a family style dinner.

Celebration

Lockhart Smokehouse BBQ
400 W Davis St, Dallas, TX 75208

If you go to Lockhart's don't wait too late in the day. They make what they make and when they are out of something you just have to get something else.

Sure glad I didn't try to drive into Austin today as planned. We'll still go to Shreveport for the second half of the week.
