Mounting new tire on new wheel

I've read about mounting tires with blue or red dots on them to the valve stem of the wheel.

Now I hear about a blue dot on the wheel to look for.  Put the red dot on the tire to the blue dot on the wheel if it has one

Tire has a yellow circle.  Across from the  circle is a red dot

Wheel has a small blue dot sticker on it.  Says:  Low 55

Yeah. When I had the Goldwing, I kept forgetting where the dot was supposed to be. Shoulda wrote it down. Now, when the cars/truck needs tires, I let Costco worry about it. They seem to know their stuff.

I finally found the answer on a tire website...  Some confusing answers I had read elsewhere


Red dot rules ....  Is what I read.  if the is a yellow dot and a red dot on same tire.  Red is the one.

Some wheels have a blue dot indicating a high spot run out .

I will mount the tires up.  See what happens.. Since th e Falcon is not driven much, it may be fine.  maybe not.

The independent tire store I used in Mesa AZ , closed up a few years ago. I have not needed any tire work on hotrods till now.  

Costco does not work on hotrods much or custom stuff.  Discount tire is too expensive and they want to sell you half the dang store when you are there. Bought a pair of trailer tires from Discount 6-7 yrs ago..  It was too much work saying NO 32 times to their add-on stuff.  No wonder the owner of Discount tire is a billionaire

What happened to just mounting the tire, fill with air, balance, put on car, drive.  Wouldn't balancing take care of any dot issues?

I am not sure.   On my motorcycle tires, the tech guy told me the dots always line up to the valve stem.

in the "olde" daze , the tire guy would mount & balance as you mention.  If the tire & wheel required too many weights, they would break the bead of the tire, rotate the tire on the wheel & try again.

Not any more I guess.  2 of the 4 wheels I had balanced have too many weights stuck on the wheel in my opinion

I've been lining up the dots for around 10 years. I haven't balanced a wheel since. Not all my stuff is great but more than not. That includes 2 of the bikes, 2 hot rods and my Dakota daily. My wife's car is the only one that gets balanced. :)

The valve stem is on the lightest part of the wheel, usually the side that is closest to the center. The dot on the tire is on the heaviest side of the tire, usually the side furthest from the center. It averages out.
