I need to spin the speedometer output faster on my 200r in the 54 Chevy.  I need more pulses per mile to make the Autometer speedometer and especially the Dakota Digital cruise control work at their best.  The 200r is different than the old 350 turbo in that the speedometer drive is off of the governor rather than the gear on the tail shaft.  You must drop the pan to change the drive gear but I can change the driven gear externally.   I have found that there are different ratio output and input gears that I can use but I am unsure as to which ones are compatible and that they will mesh correctly.  I would like to change only the output/driven gear but I need to spin the drive as fast as I can to make the devices work best.   Does anyone know anything about the gears?

If it's a mechanical speedo drive, install a ratio adapter to speed it up.

the 200-4r speed-O gears are designed to mesh together in any combo.

If you can pull the driven gear out, count the teeth.  I have some gears on hand.

Changing the inner drive gear is a PITA on a 200-4r. It is part of the governor.

I looked at the driven gear yesterday.  It is the black one or 27 teeth.  I did the math and I can not gain much by switching the driven gear.  I will road test the cruise control tomorrow and see if and how it works.  If it does not work correctly, I will take the car to the transmission shop and have the drive gear changed to the highest ratio.  By my math I need to spin it as fast as I can to get the best working system.

I called the speedo company that builds the little transmission correction devices.  There products make small corrections to calibrate speedometers and are not designed to make the big change that I need.
