air compressor tank replacement ?

what's the expiration date (as a rule) on the tank?
mine was built in '91...
anybody know?

In the Air Force we had to hydrostatic test them every 5 years-- I never saw a bad one.  2years ago, I replaced my home shop compressor, A big old v twin Westinghouse compressor and the tank was hydrostatically tested in the 50's at the Brooklyn navy Yard!  Tank was still good.  Tom...

reason I ask is that my air tank(the one for blowing up flat tires) has an exp date on it

A compressor tank has a different certification than a portable air tank. The portable tank has to meet DOT regulations, which means it has to be tested every 10 years.
