My wife flew to L.A. last Tuesday to drive back with a friend . He is returning to Marietta  after living out west since he got out of the army after Vietnam. A couple of years ago her best friend from high school moved back from L.A.. She had been out there since graduation ("66). I came here for college from New Jersey and never left. Some people feel at home in Ohio. Feels a lot better since she got back last night. Our kids and their families won't arrive until Christmas afternoon. Need the extra time to get ready. Hope everyone is better prepared but as happy as us. GPster

Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year to everyone! This is a bit of a strange Christmas for us......We sold our home and I am too busy to build us a new one currently so I built a 2 bedroom/2 bath guest house in the corner of the new shop. Not really enough room to decorate etc like we usually do.....just doesn't seem like Christmas. We have lots of snow falling now so should make for a White Christmas......That should help! Be safe and I hope Santa brings you everything on your lists!

Talk about a strange Christmas .    Ours  is in the summer and the day is generally hot  in the 30,s Celsius  or milder in the 20,s .  Yesterday Christmas day in Melbourne the capital city of our state Victoria on the south east tip of the country  was over 37 Celsius ,some parts of the state 40 .  In your terms nudging 100 degrees and over .  Combined with gusty north westerly winds from the  inland desert regions  it was a recipe for high risk for our usual bushfires  .  Fires yesterday claimed close to 60 homes along our holiday/tourist region 'surf coast"  .We wake up this morning to much needed heavy rain and a much cooler day in the low 20,s         .    Good relief for the fire fighters and today the roads to the area can open ,sadly more properties will be  added to the lost list  as those who evacuated hastily from interrupted Christmas celebrations  return.

Now  116  homes lost ,close to 100 from the one township Wye River. Fires are still going  with more hot weather  arriving on New Years eve.  I hear now that some in the USA are victims of tornados   .Spare a thought for those whose Christmas period is far from enjoyable.
