Enjenjo :   Pictures are worth at least a !,000, 000 words .   This ol hill billy has always called them Ball Hones .  Have used a truck load of Ball hones
in my engine shop over the years

hint...  when honing engine cylinder bores.. don't just go in one direction..

carve the spikes you have mashed over from the boring bar off by running the hone in reverse for a very short time.

a friend told me this many many years ago.. when he tore down indy car motors..  this was one of the things that even after 600 miles at over 10,000 rpm..  when they checked the leak down before tearing the motor down.. it was less than 7% if i recall correctly.. its been too many years..

i have wanted to build some motors where i polished the oil galleys using flex hones...  they are available for rifles and shot guns.. so something should fit..

I've used many types of lube on the dingle ball hones.

At work I use the dingle ball hones on transmittin parts each day. Small items are in my solvent tank with the pump flooding the area.

On larger stuff I use WD-40 or trans oil from squirt bottle.

On engines,  I usually run the dingle ball hone backwards a bit. They really bite in.  On engines, I have used a mixture 1 - 1 of engine oil & transmittin oil.   Also used WD-40 .  Never seen a big difference

"Down south" we call them sheep ball hones. It's a farm boy thing, if you have been around sheep any you'll understand. I usually use mineral spirits from the parts washer for lube.
