Northstar engine oil leaks

Anyone deal with these engines on the board?

My daily driver leaks when filled but let it run down 1 quart and it's loosing minimal amounts.

People tell me they're notorious leakers.
Any simple fix for them?

Any simple fix for them? here's a simple answer,  no

sounds like the pan seal (not a gasket) is leaking or even worse...there's a main cap girdle (i forget what caddy and olds call it) leaks also.

aurora 4.0's are the same design, just smaller than the cad 4.6's...


takes $$$ to fix IF you can fix it...

 Maybe you can keep the oil in temporarily..for a while with some sort
of sealant on the OUTSIDE :lol:
 Not that funny..when they came out with spray ROOFING TAR I was a changed man.
 I had someone send me someone a long time ago with an emergency type of huge mess can't drive/park the car sudden oil leak.
 400 Trans Am.Rotted pan. Ex.man studs finished,ex.pipes pretty much toast. Hangers.Trans Mt.
 This thing needed enough of work to get a new pan on.Let alone keep any oil in it.
 The guy wanted to TRY some emergency patch NOW thing what could I do NOW.
  I said drain the oil,clean the rot(fortunately it was accessible),hand wire brush and clean the area with lacquer thinner then GOB on some Permatex silicone adhesive sealant and see how long it takes to leak.
May as well hang around for a while./before and after we put a LITTLE oil in it.
  This thing held on a few hrs when he drove it home..overnight..for a few days..he drove it..for a week..driving it..a few months..it was still holding 6 months later.

 I had a cv boot leak on an Escort. Someone said there was some glue? No.
I heard weatherstrip adhesive? Didn't work. Used Permatex and it lasted
pretty much forever.

 Problem with that stuff is that it is close to $14 per tube OUCH and it
is pretty much a one time use.You can seal this stuff up..it still goes hard.
I have actually resorted to punching holes in the tube to get some out :shock:

 I sure don't believe in cures in bottles or tubes but some actually do work.

No simple fix......bandaid maybe. The usual culprit is the o-ring that goes between the two halves of the block.Only fix is to replace the o-ring and that requires dropping the whole front sub frame from the car. Also....you have to replace all the block studs because at least half of them will twist off on disassembly and the ones that don't will most likely break on reassembly. I have a buddy that owns a Cadillac only shop and does Northstars all the time. He charges $3500 to fix the oil leak.
