I need a reference for GM column lengths.  I need a short one.

How short? what do you want on it? Shifter? Key?

Floor shift, key on column.

I thought someone had posted the lengths available by make and model.

I don't know of a list, though there may be one.  S10 has a column like you want, I believe it's 36" long.

If you can find an old G.M. X body (Citation, etc.) the columns are really short, I had to add about a foot to put one in my '46 Chevy.

That is one of the ones that I will look at.  The owner of this car owns a salvage yard, and although we have nearly and unlimited supply,  I wanted a place to start looking.

Surprisingly (?) my '80 Jeep CJ7 has a GM column in it. Of course mine is automatic but it's of the normal type (although it has the indicator on the column rather than burried in the dash) and floor-shift column would probably more numerous in this brand. Mine now it has a GM '87 S10 steeering wheel , ignition and back-up/ neutral safety and horn pieces on it. A quick look at wiring diagrams shows the GM style column wiring in CJs from '76 to maybe '84 and possibly into the Wranglers. It is fairly short with a factory "U" joint, has a long double "D" collapsable shaft with a GM style "Rag Joint" ( GM/Spicer steering boxes too). Room under the dash is tight so a 1/4" drive ratchet with a 1/2" socket might be helpful to have with you. GPster
