50 F1

The next thing I need to do is get a seat mounted in the truck so I can decide on a shifter and steering column.

Is there any unwritten rule on what seat goes into a pick-up?  I have looked in a bunch of mags and it is about 50/50  half buckets half bench.

I have a set of bucket seats from a Astro van. As they are, they are to tall. I could cut down the base to get the height good but they are just to big for that small cab.

I also have a set of seats from a Trans Am, these are really nice and they are like new. They don't have any weird brackets, logos or seat belt things. I mounted them to the seat bases from the Astro seats and it  feels good. I could take a inch or so out of the height and it would be maybe a little better for me.  But I am 5'11"  and my wife if 5'4"  so it will be a little bit of a compromise for both of us.

I put a Teas Design seat in my 30 coupe and it is great, but they have gotten very $$$.  I am not ruling it out but if I can use the seats I have it would be good.

And if I use the Trans Am seats am I going to be able find material that will work for the rest of the interior that maches the seats?

What do you think about all this

Thanks Mike

Recently I bought a set of bucket seats out of a 2 door BMW.  The mounting tabs are flat and would be parallel with a flat floor.  The seats I bought are all manual adjustments but they adjust nearly every way that an electric seat adjust and the backs tilt forward for acess behind the seat.  I did remove the headrest.

The first F1 I did, I put 66 Thunderbird seats in. The second one got 90s Escort seats with the headrests removed. The Tbird seats were power, the Escorts seats were mounted on Mopar power seat bases.

Don't know how much narrower the F1 is compared to the F100, but several friends of mine have used the front seat out of a Ford Crown Vic with good results.

For what its worth, I have always had better luck using a pickup seat of some sort and recovering it. Most car seats have too thick of a back and shorten the legroom.

I used a early Dodge Dakota 60/40. I had to raise it up to make it comfortable. The problem with the F1 is it is very narrow and short of leg room in the cab.

72 F250 4x4..rode WAY too rough. 72 Fleetwood Broughm 60/40  6 way power,leather.. fixed that! It was a tight squeeze..and they were a bit too high. I still cannot believe how heavy that seat was!!

Pontiac Fiero seats fit in an early 30s car/truck real good & look nice as well but are getting hard to find. I scored a set for a friend at Kzoo & was able to get a vendor (ASC frame rails) to haul them back to Mississippi for him.Try measuring your truck between the B pillars & go to  a Pull a Part if available & start measuring anything that looks it like might work. I have Toyota Highlander seats in my '40 coupe & they fit good & have fold down armrests which are nice on long trips. I have heard of people using minivan back bench seats in 30s rods for the look w/o the high aftermarket price.

Hello;
Have a pair of early Camero seats in my 32 Vicky. Confortable as can be but they barely fit!
I just put a pair of custom bucket seats from a ?? (don't know) that a guy  had in a Ford (50's) panel truck that was T-boned. They fit really nice in the 57 and sort of look like the Camero seats!.
I don't know how to post photos on this site so just leave it up to your imagination!

Your truck (50 F1 ?) is no doubt somewhat narrower. Here's the 92 ish F150 bench I put in my `63 C-10. Easy as tape measure and trip to Pick-A-Part and minor mods to the floor mt. feet.
