Ok, I am fitting my econoline spindles to my new axle. I have to enlarge the bushings to fit the bigger pin,no real problem. But I am wondering if anyone here has ever used these type spindles and if so ,what did you do for steering arms? The stock ones do not look to be useable but they bolt on . I was wondering if there is anything out in the scrapyard that could be used before I set out to machine up a set. What if any options might I find in the ol boneyard?

EMSjunky ran into this problem when building his T, he used Econoline spindles. I believe Total T made steering arms for those spindles, nut  they were bought out by Speedway, and I don't know if they are still available.

Bolt on steering arms were used on Chevys to 72 on various models, Mopar  through the late 50s, and 49 to 54 Fords. Maybe there is something there that will work. Give me a bolt size and spacing, and I will do some measuring.

I have econoline spindles on the axle under my Simca. It already had a tie rod setup with custom brackets on the spindles.

i found nothing for a steering arm to match the spindle bolt hole spacing.  Spacing as close as I can measure is 2.400 inches.

I cut and re-weld a steering arm from Speedway for cross steering.

At this point I may need to run a drag link from box to left side spindle and not use cross steering.  I have no room at frame and engine block for a steering box.  There will be a small alternator on the engine block on left side between frame and engine block

I had a bent econoline spindle and it took a few weeks to find another.

I got a deal on this axle with econoline spindles and it has turned out to NOT be a deal so far

Thanks guys ,I will check out speedway. I can probably get away with using a pass side steering arm on drivers side if I recut the taper . I got the batwings today so I will find out if cross steer is in my future or not.

Sadly nothing will fit .So I made some to fit through the original holes from1" solid round tool steel- threaded the ends and tapered the part that goes through.  One heck of a ONE OFF job.

Oops! I was talking about the LOWER arms.  For the top I did use one from MAS but it hit the grease fitting --Had to use it upside down.

butch27, I will likely have to do what you have done.I was thinking that I might put two holes on the passenger side arm and do cross steer with a rack.
