Ford 8" and 9" indentification

A friend is doing some work on another friends car and he's not sure how to identify what rear end is in the car - he thinks it's either an 8" or a 9". Anyone know of a link for this info etc?

A 8" rear end is flat on top and bottom and a 9" is round top and bottom and cost about twice as much.
