Daily Driver problem

Not mine but my sisters, she has an '01 Dodge Caravan and the speedo has quit. Strange thing is that the needle is on the wrong side of the peg. When you turn the key on the needle comes up to hit the back of the peg. I don't know if this is a common problem on these Caravans or what. Anyone have any experience with this? Any ideas on how to open the dash on these? I looked at it for a couple minutes and couldn't see how the instument panel comes apart.

Must be an electric speedometer.  Possible this is sensor problem instead of a speedo problem?

i've used a really strong magnet to "walk" the needle back around of some GM stuff, might give it a try...

3.11.1 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SELF TEST
1. Depress and hold the Odometer Reset button.
2. Turn the ignition switch to on.
3. Release the Odometer reset button.
The Instrument Cluster will illuminate all indicators
and step the gauges through several calibration
points. Also, the odometer will display any
stored codes that may have set

this is 02 info... 01 might be different.

the cluster does come out.. you will have to remove the lower knee panel... split the column cover..   remove the big panel around the face of the dash board.. then you can get in to remove the cluster..  the front cover does come off after removing the cluster from the dash board...

i just don't know how the speedo needle could get on the wrong side of the stop pin... other than just a random act...
