one of the fellows at work has a problem with his turbo 350

the bolt that holds the speedo cable to the tranny seized and when he tried to get it out snapped  . then when he used an easy out (against my advice) to get the broken piece out he broke the tranny where the bolt goes in :-o  now he wants to repair said break. it broke along the bolt length. i suggested cleaning well and then JB weld and drill/tap or drill/helicoil.

is there a better path or is JB weld the way to go

thanks

since the speedo cable goes into the removable tail housing...

replace the tail housing if you have a transmission parts supplier near by??? one that supplies used hard parts.??

perhaps even a local junk yard...

there are a few variables... some are by length...

6, 9, or 12 inch... unless its a 4x4....

i have never looked to see if there is enough material to drill a new hole someplace else around the speedo opening???

they could hold it in place with wires with some creative thinking.. at least until they get a replacement tail housing..    a tiny hose clamp on the casing several inches out from the end so the wire can have a good place to hold it in with when wrapped around the tail housing..

they might even be able to use one of the rubber freeze plugs if available to seal the speedo hole until they can get it fixed...

or a cup type freeze plug..

as wayne mentions a replacement is easier...  length and style will be noted ,

although all the 12 inch long tail housings are the BOP design speed-O insert.

or tig weld the unit, re-drill

it is not too complicated.

first get a tape measure

2; get under the car. Jim you will need a hi-lift jack

3; look for the transmission , Jim get some help here

4; measure the tail housing from the end with seal on it , to the point the tail housing meets the trans case.

5;  read the tape measure , Jim see number ''3'' for additional info in part two of number ''3''
