I am working on a 55 Chevy with a 350/TH350 drivetrain from an early 80's Caprice. The car came with all the original wiring missing from the car, including the lamp sockets in the gauge cluster. The customer wants to use the original light indicators for the generator and oil pressure. I would like to know what type of light sockets (single or double contact) are required and how to properly wire these into the system to operate correctly. I am using the early 80's style alternator and an EZ Wire wiring harness. Thanks, Rick

Earlier GM cars into the 40s should use the same lamp sockets.  A snap in metal housing, two or three fingers with a single wire (cloth covered).

Should be some in that Field of Dreams.

If you have a surplus of them, I could use a couple for my SW gauges.

Good Luck

You need two wire sockets for these indicators. Power to one wire, the other connected to the oil sender, or the small brown wire on the alternator.

Hi Jim, I know there are lots of them in the field, but a walk through 3+ feet of snow ain't gonna happen for a couple months! I actual purchased new single wire sockets from piston ring for the illumination lamps, but was thinking they may need to be double contact for the idiot lights as Frank mentioned in his post. Thanks, Rick

Thanks Frank, I assumed it was something like that. Any idea what bulb number is used? I don't recall a small double contact bulb and the hole in the housing is around 5/8". All the aftermarket double contact sockets I have found are 3/4" or larger. Thanks, Rick

1895 is one bulb, 57 is another.
