If you go to this link

you will find instructions on how to raise the pressure and flow on a Saginaw pump for use with a quick ratio Saginaw box. By adding shims, instead of removing them, you can lower the pressure and flow for a Mustang rack.

Good info, thanks.  I think a lot of the market for new "600 series" I actually driven by overassist.  Tires have changed and so has our taste in power steering. When I was a kid that "turn with one finger" thing was common, but it makes a car nervous on center

For the PS conversion on my `63 Chevy pickup I used a box from an early 70's C-10 and pump from a `78 C-10. It gave me the "one finger" assist but also the darty, nervous feel on center. I had an alignment done and they dialed in all the caster they could, which was 5.4 deg. This didn't give me any firmer feel.
I guess I'll try adding a shim or 2. Should this give a noticable change?

It should. From what I have read, I would not add more that two additional shims.
