MARCH  MEET  "DOWNSIZING"
If you were planning on going  to  the  March  Meet  at  Bakersfield  this March , 4  classes  have been cut from the show. 3  out  of  the  5 heads  up classes  have been cut from the show  AA/GAS,  A/FUEL,JUNIOR FUEL  plus the popular 7.0 class,  that leaves just top fuel and funny car , And top fuel and funny car are expected to have less cars competing because of some expensive new NHRA mandated carbon fiber brake rules. That leaves index style cars for the remainder of the show. In a recent statement to drag racing on line web site ,Blake Bowser (track manager), stated that he doesn't have time to run these classes plus he wants  to cut back on expenses for himself and the racers? however prices will be the same as last year to see the show?

This news has been a shock to racers and fans alike , many have been participating and spectating at the March Meet  ever sense the Good Guys  brought it back from the dead, some even participated in the 60's and 70's .  One racer said he had one hundred thousand dollars into his car and only raced at the March Meet and the hot rod reunion. He said this is a very sad news to the nostalgia racers and the people that care about the tradition of the March Meet.  Another racer said ,  we have all seen someone inherit a successful business and make a bunch of  bad decisions and  ruin  the business , but this decision hurts allot of people, and the March Meet.  Info. can be obtained  by calling 661 399 2210  or  661 3995351.

Yup, and if that's happening at the March Meet can the same happen at the Hot Rod Reunion!?

Promoters never "save" racers any money.
Any attempt to do so, is usually self serving.

You guys remember when division points meets went from the full field to no pros? I was told there weren't enough paying spectators to make it work. Maybe that's the deal???

Sorry to hear that.  It's bound to change though with big business involved. I think they forget who this all is really for. If the fun is going out of it for the  ones racing then it must be the same for the ones viewing it.
What\'s that noise?,,, Never mind,, I\'ll check it later

I was at the march meet in 2005 helping the guy that bought my front engine dragster race it in NE1. He later moved up to 7.0 class.I am hoping to have my new FED ready to go for the 2113 March Meet .One of the things on my "bucket list" is to drive my own car at the March Meet.I wonder if they realise how many people are gasser fans that may not come out to see blower cars without doors.I love the dragsters and old funny cars ,but there are easily as many guys into blown doorslammers.Without the Willys ,Anglias ,Austins and the like that populate the gasser classes, the race may start to look like an early 80's bracket race. If these moves are being made to streamline and cut costs ,how long before it becomes the PINKS all out nostalgia race ?Part of the charm and spectator appeal  of the march meet is being able to see and experience cars from the past, cars with a history. I was thrilled to be able to stand beside a number  of cars that I had posted pictures of on my bedroom walls as a kid.Famoso is a track steeped with history . If you streamline history it is lost. I for one would not board 4 airplanes and rent a car to drive out to a 'pre 73 bracket race'.
