Hi guys,
I am having a problem with a ford auto tranny.
The car is a 1991 ford bronco,with a 351
We pulled the tranny to fix a leaking rear mail on the motor, well we dropped the tranny off the jack and broke the case(yep were still doing dumb stuff).
So my son gets a used tranny, but it was from a rig with a 302.
Now the tranny over revs when he starts to move.but it will pick up speed but it's not  good.
If he pulls it down into first it takes off good, just like it should.
Could we have a bad converter or what?
It's an overdrive tranny thats electronic.
Any ideas?
Thanks russ

the throttle valve lever is NOT adjusted correctly....

this is also know as the kick down lever... but on these transmissions..

they adjust the control pressures inside the transmission and change the shift points..

check back for a proper adjustment how to....

if crosley does not beat me to it...

if you drive it with the TV rod misadjusted.. you will toast the transmission and have a double membership to team smart...

here is some text... i grabbed...

AOD Transmission With Fuel Injection
ADJUSTMENT WITH ENGINE OFF
Set the parking brake and put the selector lever in Neutral .

Remove the protective cover from the cable.

Make sure that the throttle lever is at the idle stop. If it isn't, check for binding or interference. NEVER ATTEMPT TO ADJUST THE IDLE STOP!

Make sure that the cable is free of sharp bends or is not rubbing on anything throughout its entire length.

Lubricate the TV lever ball stud with chassis lube.

Unlock the locking tab at the throttle body by prying with a small screwdriver.

Install a spring on the TV control lever, to hold it in the rearmost travel position. The spring must exert at least 10 lbs. of force on the lever.

Rotate the transmission outer TV lever 10-30° and slowly allow it to return.

Push down on the locking tab until flush.

Remove the retaining spring from the lever.

the locking tab in on the end of the cable casing up on top of the throttle body...  unlocking it lets the cable casing slide fore and aft in the casing end ...

1991  Bronco  should not be a electronic controlled - shifted trans... 1992 - 93  could be either AOD  or ADOE

with wire connectors on both sides , you have a AODE or a 4R70W trans.. both are electronic controlled shifting  & main line  pressure control.  One harness is main control for the trans.. the other would be the manual lever shifter position sensor

The 91 Bronco should not be a AODE , but with Ford ya never know.

Does the Bronco have the connectors for the electronic trans?
