Rodder's Roundtable / Rust Removal
November 01, 2005, 05:45:42 AM
Works real well. How? I was talking with an old sugar cane farmer last Christmas and ran it by him, and he told me molasses was very high in phosphorous. And phosphoric acid is used a lot in rust removal eg. I think a lot of metal prep solutions are basically phosphoric acid. Mmmm, a connection?

That's about where my chemistry theory gets to anyway. Next...

Good for you Nick, just goes to show what can be done if you hang in there. Enjoy the miles.

Rodder's Roundtable / electric fan temp sensor
May 01, 2005, 07:24:50 PM
I've got a Windsor in a 32, never a heat problem, 14" electric fan at top behind rad, Hotronics fan switch screws into inlet manifold next to temp guage sender (this is good as it keeps all  the wiring together). Switches on at 210 off at 195 (I think) and only does so very rarely, eg bumper to bumper traffic in summer. Most time engine sits at 180.

Brootal! Help! Same sentence! So you want to get an idea of what it will look like with someone sitting in it? I get it.

Pete I meant where are you located? I know a few blokes with the 4 speed conversion from Mike. Mike's a funny fella. Are you using his heads?

Where are you at Pete? A friend of mine makes the rear panels ("the tub section").  The guy's a 35 nut and could answer pretty anything you could want to know about 35/6's factory style.

He makes the side panels and tailgate skin - you do the rest. PM me for contact details.

Rodder's Roundtable / I just bought a 48 Ford F1

Easiest front suspension I have ever seen is a Jag. Real cheap and everything is already mounted to the Jag crossmember 'cept the upper shock mount. Two bolts per side is all you need to attach it to the truck - 2 hour job tops.

You get big discs, power steer, real good ride, Chev bolt pattern and it sits good 'n' low.

Seen a couple done already and a friend is in mid build with one in an F1 right now. Too easy.

Rodder's Roundtable / Fill 'er Up
April 21, 2005, 07:25:48 PM
Well TJ it took $40 for the first time ever to fill my roadster the other day.

These prices are rocketing - especially in the crap state of NSW where they tax like no other state knows how. What is 1.20 here now I got for .85 in QLD at Christmas!

Rodder's Roundtable / Brake return spring question
April 19, 2005, 11:12:35 PM
Gee PD, great minds think alike!

Only I didn't use the 4 bar for a front anchor - made another one. My spring's only about 4" long.

Could start a thread about the smallest/dumbest/least significant part that started a project.

A friend of mine has been hoarding an ancient Hurst 3 speed shifter for years and is constantly threatening to build a car around it. Not a lot of prospects for a 3 speed though.

He'd have better luck with his Weiand flatty heads!

Oh yes, did you build the track nose yourself? it's a good looking one.

You've thrown me for a loop.  The next project I've been accumulating parts for is an old school highboy A RPU on 32 rails. The one AFTER that was a track T.  As you guys say "Dang!"  Now the brain starts ticking all over again. Guess I can sit on that one while I finish the current project.

You do what you have to do. When it's all done and you've got a few k on the odo and a huge grin to go with it, what's a little extra effort "back then."

All the best with it.
