Rodder's Roundtable / No Room for condenser?
May 10, 2005, 08:04:55 PM
Does any one have any pictorial examples of cars/ 4WDs (thats SUVs fro you americans!) or anything that shows engine bays or radiator areas that have no room at all for a condenser.
I am doing a little project on heat exchangers and i figure there must be alot of cars that just physically have no room. People like Vintage air sell remote condensers so plenty of people must have the problem. I'm thinking, Amodels, rear or mid engined sports cars, cars with engine transplants etc etc

I have a few pictures of cars with big intercoolers in front of the radiator which are a good example, but they are drag cars and so really have no need for AC!

Soooooo, thanks in advance, you can email to me cyclone_racing@hotmail.com

Does anyone have some photos of the location and installation of these condensors as i am interested in this myself.
Are they sitting vertical or flat? do you have any problems with rocks going through the core seeing as the condensor is under the car?

If you had a roadster, could you mount one in the space just behind the diff in a vertical fashion?

Do you have any problems with pressure loss in the pipes due to the longer piping to the remote condensor?

thanks for any repies in advance!

Apparently the far out cars with wings are called 'VIP' style, i asked this rice burner mate of mine. dunno whats with the exhausts and all that.
He said the old 70s jobs were the original drifters, before drifting became common place now. thats why they have 13 inch wheels 10 inches wide and cheap bolt on flares. so i guess these guys are kind of looking after jap car history by keeping these cars on the road.
The coolers out the front are engine oil coolers i have found out, i guess constant high revs resulted in overheating engines and that was the cheapest way to alleviate the problem, rather than geting bigger radiators.
So there you go.

Ok ill bite, what are those heat exchangers they all have hanging off the front?
hoses are too small for air, must be a fluid, maybe gearbox oil? Im sure it has something to do with performance, but.....who knows.

I think those guys should just get cars that already have running boards instead of putting them on a later model car!

Can you imagine a 34 Ford done in that style..... hmmm, maybe someone has time to do a photoshop job.....

And, its good to see small diameter wheels making a comeback! I was just talking about that the other day...!

Rodder's Roundtable / Fill 'er Up
April 23, 2005, 05:03:46 AM
Quote from: "Carps"
Filling the LandCruiser always elicits some stupid comment from the guy on the desk, coz when it's down to the last 20 litres it'll ring up about A$145.00 or more from the 98 RON pump.

Of course I only have to fill it once a month if I'm just driving too and from the office.

Im assuming there is a vast section of road between your home and work that is completely unsealed and covered in large rocks. Other wise why else would you need a Landcruiser to drive to work....

We have stickers up here that say

"Urban 4WDs = Environmental Terrorists"

They some how find their way onto those big 4WDs that the mums drive their kids to school in....

Rodder's Roundtable / Any 34 chevy Owners

Hi yngrodder,
I am 29 too and i have the remnants of a 34 chev standard sedan.
Standards are shorter than Masters. there is 2 inches in the front doors, two inches in the rear section behind the rear doors but the rear doors are the same. the bonnet is two inches longer also.
The grille shell is an inch higher than a standard in a master.
I know you have a tudor not a sedan but that just explains some of the differences.
The longer car dictates why they have a different chassis that standards.

THe 34 master had the new fangled front trailing arm suspension, it was quite ok. Previous to that they had twin parrallel leaf springs i believe.
There are some mods you can do to that suspension to get it lower, and it works fine, depending on what you are going to use it for.

A friend of mine is nearing completion of a Master 34 roadster, he has a hotted up chev 6 in it with finned alloy everywhere. looks awesome. i have no pics of it yet though.

Im not sure what its like over there but parts here is Aus are scarce. i can go to a swap and find nothing.

Is your body steeled out? the 34s had wood in the body that usually needs replacing. i havent even started that yet!
Im using an Aus holden front end and a nine inch rear end with 3 link and panhard suspension.

Pm me with any questions, i dont know that much but i know ppl i can ask and probably get you an answer.

I like your wheel and tyre chioce. Are they 14 inches?
I highly rate 14s, and i think they will be coming back into fashion very soon, once everyone gets bored with 20s and the like.
Cant wait to see EH Holdens cruising around again with deep dish 13 inch dia jelly beans and pumped out guards hanging over them that rub on every bump in the road! Yeah!

I know you all cant wait too~!

I reckon with the right credentials up front (that means engine!) you could get that thing to do wicked wheelstands!
