Rodder's Roundtable / Spartan Rod Works

Steve thanks for the reply.  That is the same feeling I got by just talking with them on the phone.  I talked with a few of the big names suppliers but I got the feeling from the people on the phone I was wasting their time because I hadn't made up my mind and they didn't have time to discuss it.  Oh well, I ordered the Spartan kit yesterday and look forward to getting started.

Thanks Again,
Larry

Does anyone have any experience with their front suspension kits??  I spoke with a gentleman named Larry that is the apparent owner of the company and he seemed really helpful and knowledgable.  It seems that his kit comes as a one piece crossmember which seems to me would be an easier install.
Thanks,
Larry

Rodder's Roundtable / Mustang II Crossmember & Kit

Does anyone have experience using the unit from Speedway Motors??  This is my first install and although I want to save some money I do not wish to have  a bunch of extra work that would come with an unfriendly kit.   :?:

Thanks in advance,
Larry

Rodder's Roundtable / Frame off
December 08, 2004, 08:07:03 PM
I will be taking the body off so I can send the frame out to be blasted.  Hopefully this does not turn into long storage.  I will need some body work but I plan to send the body off to be blasted also.  Then I will know for sure how much body work I will have ahead of me.

I would assume I should remove the glass before I remove the body from the frame??

Thanks again,
Larry

Rodder's Roundtable / Frame off

I am laying the ground work to start my project.  I plan to take the body off the frame on my '42.  My question is the best place to support the shell??  I was planning on using the mounts underneath the firewall but what about the rest??  Should I go all the way to the rear and just have the two supports or should I use more??

Thanks,
Larry

Rodder's Roundtable / Not completely sure...

Quote from: "Briggs&StrattonChev"42aerosedan--is your rust all the way to the bottom of the fender, or does the hole still have a reasonable amount of good metal surrounding it?  If it has good metal around it, it wouldnt be too tough to make your own flat patch panel, because those fenders are pretty flat towards the bottom.

I just recently purchased this car.  The fender appears to have been fixed before because the area has some plastic in it and it is separating from the fender itself.  I haven't gotten to it to inspect just yet but it appears to be mostly rusted away.

Thanks,
Larry

But does anyone offer a patch panel for the front fenders between the wheel and the door fender extention??  I am in need of one for the lower left or a complete fender.  I have seen the fiberglass replacements but I am not sure if I want to go that route.

Thanks,
Larry

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: 8.8 inch ford axles
November 28, 2004, 06:47:09 PM
Did you ever think of just going with a 9 inch? I really dont like the way the 8.8 rear is put together. They went cheap when they went to the 8.8 the nine or even a 8" is a better rear in my eyes.

Yes, that was my first choice, but I have stumbled across this 8.8 unit that is basically a configuration I can use if I could get the axle situation straighten out.

By cheap do you mean junk??

Quote from: "enjenjo"The Turbo coupe rear is an 8.8, and about 4 inches wised than a Mustang. If you get the Ranger axles, Moser will cut the housing for about $50

The width is fine at 59" (actually I am supposed to use a 60") so I would not need it cut down just need different lug pattern and/or axles to get to a 5-lug (either 4.75" or 5.00").

Rodder's Roundtable / 8.8 inch ford axles

Don't know the year, supposed to be out of a Turbo Coupe.  The overall width is 59" and had rear disc brakes and the axles each measure 30 1/4".

The axles are 28 spline 4 lug that I need to replace unless there is enough flat area that these could be re-drilled??

What about the V-8 T-Birds, what would they have had ??

What about a rearend from a Thunderbird??

Does this same info apply??  Or are you able to get 5-lug axles to fit??

Thanks for the info, I am leaning towards the Fat Man's unit.  I am re-thinking and probably will stay with the basic unit with the spring hats and standard coil springs.  I almost hate to spend the extra time and money on pieces no one will ever see.

As for the basic assembly I do not want to use strut rods at all.  I am hoping to use tubular upper and lower a-frames.  Do you think that is an issue??

Thanks again,
Larry
