Rodder's Roundtable / Blower question

I tend to agree. I'm going to try it this way. It has run before, I just don't know how long.
Just make sure you have a bag of marshmellows around in case it doesn't go as hoped. No sense in letting all that heat go to waste. Jbird

Rodder's Roundtable / Blower question
December 23, 2009, 01:55:27 AM
I've done a few supercharged engines but I never had one where the Gilmer belt also spun the waterpump. On a serpentine accessory belt driven water pump it takes a bit of work to spin the pump against the backside of the belt. On an Escalade I did a few years ago the blower, and everything else, was driven off one serpentine belt using a stock GM tensioner. How full of a circle does the belt make around the H2O pump? Jbird

Rodder's Roundtable / Metric system
November 26, 2009, 03:37:59 PMQuote from: "enjenjo"QuoteThe only problem I have is when I look at a 1/4-20 bolt and it has a 10mm hex head.
Have you run into any of the studs on GM cars that are metric on one end, and fractional on the other?
Yup, the end that screws into the engine is merican and the end that the nut goes on is ferrin. Used to get out my fraction wrenches to work on an american car and my millimeter wrenches for them foreign cars. Now it seems like I have * near my whole tool box out to work on an american car.

I think I should try a similar scheme except I won't start the design process until I get the deposit. Maybe something along the lines of a Pacer/Gremlin. All I need now is somebody to front me the listing fee. Jbird

Rodder's Roundtable / Metric system

I've been doing the "in head" conversions for so long it's just second nature. I can usually identify a threaded bolt, dia and pitch, inch/metric just by looking at it. The only problem I have is when I look at a 1/4-20 bolt and it has a 10mm hex head. I bought a bag of 1/4-20 oil pan bolts from ACE once, some had 10mm and some 7/16" hex heads. I think we should convert all of em over to clutch head screws. Jbird

Rodder's Roundtable / 351W engine vibration???
September 29, 2009, 12:45:42 PM
We did up a 68 mustang fatsback with a slightly modded 351W engine. The customer supplied the longblock. Now we have a really annoying vibration it starts at about 3K and sort of smooths out at about 5K. We changed balancers (28oz) flexplates (28oz) and even the torque convertor. No help. Has anyone had a similar problem? Hopefully we won't have to pull the engine down and hunt for a drastic imbalance in rods and pistons. Any input is appreciated. Jay

Tony Tony Tony If I'd a known you was gonna turn that pristine little limey beauty into one o them HOTRODS I'd a never give her to you.
Personally I like the gasser straight axle idea. One of my idears when I used to ponder on the little limey was to drop the whole powertrain out of a front wheel drive whatever was handy and slip it, subframe and all, into where the rear seat of blimey is supposed to be.
Now that I have another smacked up VW bug AND a 99 Buick Regal I may have to attampt the above mentioned transplant. I'm still ponderin on the track width.
Does enjenjo know everything about everything? Or does he just have a better internet than the rest of us?

Rodder's Roundtable / CPP power steering question
August 14, 2009, 01:38:15 AM
Thanks for that link Wayne, it's gonna come in real handy in the future.
Frank, CPP provided the pitman arm and the bolt-on steering arm for the spindle. I whacked off the original steering arm. I didn't get a chance to call them today but there's always tomorrow. Jay

Rodder's Roundtable / CPP power steering question
August 13, 2009, 12:24:31 AM
It's a GM steering box, supposed to be quick ratio. I think Wayne is on the right track. Maybe they sent the wrong pitman arm, I'm gonna try calling them again in the am. Thanks guys Jay
Frank you should have read that note a little closer it was more like a reverse ransom note, they were offering $$$ to any one who came and got me out of their hair. Hey, six bucks is six bucks

Rodder's Roundtable / CPP power steering question
August 12, 2009, 12:30:51 AM
I installed their complete kit on a 58 Chevy PU, it has the original leaf spring/straight axle front suspension. I followed the instructions to the letter. Now my turning radius is huger than huge, I can't do a u-turn on a normal two lane road and a too sharp right turn rubs the left front tire on the new steering box. Just wondering if any of you cool dudes have experience with the CPP kit. Thanks Jay
BTW didn't you get the ransom note? I was kidnapped by a real job.

Rodder's Roundtable / Speedweek 2009
August 02, 2009, 11:23:01 PM
Pagosa Springs..... Did they import some oxygen up there this year? There sure wasn't much up there last year. After walking from the gas pump twenty yards to the store and back then filling up the bike I had to debate whether the risk of passing out due to lack of oxygen was worth the forty yard walk for the buck sixty in change I had coming. Beautiful country indeed.
I was watching the Discovery channel last night and I'm pretty sure I saw Hooleys Stude on their speedweek documentary. It was only for a nano second but it was the only orange Hawk on the salt. Be safe guys.
