That's a good point, never thought about that. I did find a broken temp sensor by the thermostat housing, replaced it, and it is running again. Not sure if it is still running rich.
Thanks for the info Chimp, I do appreciate it!

Rodder's Roundtable / TBI questions

A freinds son has a 94 chevy pickup with a 350 with tbi. He rebuilt it, added a lunati voodoo cam, and a gear drive timing set. He set the timing at 4 degres advanced, not sure why, but anyway... it is running very rich, to the point of stalling. I know enough about tbi to know I don,t know anything about them.  I am not sure of the exact cam specs,  but it is not radical by any means. Around 270 duration and 460 lift.
Would the cam profile make the computer think it is lean?
Where else should I look
Would the 4 degrees advance confuse the compuer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Tried Franks tip today, got as far as removing the vacuum line, noticed tranny fluid dripping from it :x

replaced to vacuum modulator, and no more smoke :!:

thanks for the advice and "kind words" 8)

Rodder's Roundtable / Tranny question

I had a whole different thought when I saw EMSjunky, and a tranny question

easy big boy :!:

that is a great idea, i will give it a try tomorrow :)

that has to be the only place the fluid could come from, plus the old truck sat for over 7 years without being driven, and now it gets driven 3 or 4 times a week. thanks for all the advice, I really do appreciate it :!:

Rodder's Roundtable / Tranny question
January 24, 2013, 05:16:19 PM
Howdy folks! been away for a bit, but I think things are finally gonna settle down in my life............anyway.......
I have an 80 GMC pickup, half ton, SBC and turbo tranny.
had it out on the hiway yesterday, and noticed when I decelerated, or came off idle, a pretty good amout of white smoke was coming out the right exhaust
I thought maybe it was sucking oil from the valve cover PCV valve. but it appears to be trans. fluid :?  the tranny started slipping, and after adding 2 quarts of fliud, it acted fine, until the return trip home, more smoke, tranny slipping again.
is it possible for the vacuum modulator to go bad, alowing trans fluid to be drawn up the vacuum line to the intake :?:

Rodder's Roundtable / The end

I too am guilty of not posting. it has been a long time since I had a question, or a response, but I do check in once in a while.
I have made allot of friends here, and I thank the Franks for that.
I received TONS of help when I was building my Coupe, without the help of you folks here, I probably couldn't have completed it.
I consider each and every one here a friend, I will be sad to see it go the way of the Buffalo, but in the same respect, I garnered allot of information, and most importantly, allot of good friends here on the RRT.

Thank You Frank, I appreciate you, and everyone here!!
