Rodder's Roundtable / Happy Easter!!!
April 17, 2022, 10:12:44 AM
Happy Easter to all my friends here on the RRt. I am sorry I haven't checked in regularly, but, life is getting in the way. The princess had another set back and we are working thru that now. She has a rare muscle disease that is not nice to her body. Back to ICU Thursday and we are now waiting for more information on her condition. So back and forth to the U of M hospital. I have started a new project. A 1962 Econoline Pickup. We are putting a 2.7 twin turbo ecoboost engine and 6 speed auto in it. Its moving ahead slowly. So there you have the latest from Don's Hot Rod Garage! Enjoy the holiday and I will check in later!

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: 2021: What are you doing today

So I finally have a chance to check in here. I would like to wish everyone Happy Holidays! :D I have been covered up here. The wife had another setback a week after Thanksgiving and is in a rehab facility at this time. She seems to be improving daily and we are keeping our fingers crossed in hopes of them helping her get to be more self sufficient. I can say that her attitude is great and as we all know that is a big part of the recovery process.
So gang enjoy!!!!!! :)
I'll check back when I can!

Rodder's Roundtable / Don does it again

Let me tell you about this years journey to the Nats. Preparation is big.

I took all of the engine management out of this car the first week of July. The Mega Squirt system I had in it decided to run max lean and I could not find a problem or a way out of the issue. No help from anybody either.

So, I ordered a Chrysler Crate Motor computer and wiring harness form Russell at Sound German Automotive. He is the man who sold me the trans controller that works flawlessly. Three days after the harness hit my door step it was up and running and better than it ever has.

22.5 mph at 65 to 70 mph. Cruised the fairgrounds at 190 degrees with the ac on a lot of the day. Lots of pictures taken of the car and thumbs up.

What i learned here is this computer is set up to run a 5.7 Hemi and that only. No accessories or extras. In my mind I believe that modifying some stock computers can lead to problems in other areas of the computer affecting the whole system. The Chryslers are by far the hardest to set up. And some after market systems are to be avoided unless you want to play with tunes and change programming constantly.

We ran three cars to Louisville, The cab over my wagon and a 5.0 powered 40 ford tudor. No major problems with any.

I polished on the wagon for a week to get it nice enough to go to Louisville and entering Mopar Country was a after thought. My friend Dave that came along for the ride pushed that and helped me detail the wagon . The award is nice and I am very happy with the results of the car. .I met some new people and talked to some of the people I already knew and had a overall great time.

So thanks to all of you for your support of my efforts!!!

Rodder's Roundtable / brake question
June 06, 2021, 07:38:17 AM
Quote from: "enjenjo"
Quote from: "57larry"master cyl is matched to booster. it's an ECI kit.

Just because it was bought as a kit, and is "matched " to the booster doesn't mean it's adjusted correctly. In fact most kits I find are not adjusted correctly. The spec is 0.060" clearance between the booster pushrod and the master cylinder piston. I have found kits with four times that clearance out of the box.

I have found them with too much adjustment preloading the master cylinder. Just recently with the brakes on the milk truck. And I am not sure that any of these company's selling the kits really know what they have.

416Ford,
I ended up adding some length to the horizontal section of the pedal so it didn't hit the floor. That didn't help. I tried a 1" bore master cylinder, no help. Per the suggestion of a very smart person that posts here, I added residual pressure valves to the front and rear lines, (3 lines) and began to get brakes. I was not satisfied with the pedal travel so I went back to the 1 1/8 bore master cylinder that I started with. I now have brakes. I can't lock the wheels up but it really noses over when you get on them.
In my quest to solve this issue I got with Master Power Brakes tech people. I was told that no street rods will lock up the wheels.
How about that?
I am going to look for something else to drive me closer to crazy today. :D

Looking like that is not what I need to do so I am taking another look at the whole system. For one I have a 1 1/8 bore master on this and the original Crown Vic was 1". I'm changing that first.

So I haven't been hiding. I have been awfully busy with the wife care, her therapy and yard work. I have  problem that I need smart people to help me solve. I lengthened the brake pedal for the Divco and have not been able to get the stroke I need before It bottoms out on the floor. I have, as I have calculated, a 4.77:1 ratio which should be acceptable. I am only moving the push rod about 3/4 to 7/8 of a inch. The master cylinder has 1 3/4 depth. So I don't have enough braking force. I am thinking a bell crank to fix the problem. I just can't get my brain wrapped around how to keep a good ratio and get more throw. Will it work?

Rodder's Roundtable / Ford cruise control

Anybody know how to fool a Ford PCM into thinking it still has ABS sensors?
If I could do that I may be able to make the factory cruise control work.

Rodder's Roundtable / 2020 .. What are you doing today?

My wife was admitted to the hospital Tuesday evening.  She has a problem with degeneration of the muscles supposedly caused by a arthritis drug she had taken for years. This led to use of a walker and a poor quality of life. I noticed that she was having issues, like she couldn't speak very loudly, she was forgetting things and the TV remote was a big challenge. The doctors determined she was very dehydrated which led to a lot of the problems. She always had a bottle of water with her but was forgetting to drink it. They ruled out a stroke and did all the test CT,MRI, checked the arteries in her neck and found a valve problem in her heart. Now the neurologist and the cardiologist have to meet and determine a plan of action and if they can even do anything because of the muscle condition. God * golden years. :(
