A work of art. A feet of engineering. Cool. Bada$$. Amazing... but that's where it ends. Now keep it on display.
I like this one better and it's almost 90 years old.

Time for rodders to embrace electric power? I'm warming to the idea and glancing at my Karmann Ghia.

Rodder's Roundtable / Battery selection

The Optima red top that came in my `63 C10 was probably new from the PO just before I bought the truck, which makes it about 9 yrs old now. Still going strong and it's been run down and dead a few times and lived thru a period when the alternator was over charging, like 16+ volts. All in a northern PA border climate.
Hope I didn't just invite trouble. :?

Rodder's Roundtable / Ordering parts.
February 18, 2016, 11:02:47 AMQuote from: "enjenjo"Now for the best part. After I posted, I went out in the shop to do some clean up. The first thing I picked up was a master cylinder repair kit. I opened the box, and right on top was the boot I needed.
Things happen for a reason.

Rodder's Roundtable / SBC Harmonic Balancer Question
February 12, 2016, 06:38:48 PM
Good suggestion Chimp but this is a manual 5 speed. I had the trans and clutch out and ran the engine to see if it still had the vib and it did. I also took accessory drive belts off and tested and made sure to separate 5 & 7 plug wires.
Some remaining sources are: old mounts under the iron bellhousing, budget FWheel from summit, balancer still, etc..

Rodder's Roundtable / SBC Harmonic Balancer Question
February 10, 2016, 10:58:01 PM
I've been living with an annoying slight engine vibration in a roller cam 305 that comes on at 1K rpms and goes away by 2K, most pronounced at 1200.
I thought I'd spring for a new balancer so I measured the one that's on now and came with the engine when I bought it used. It measures 7.25 inches and I find that size referenced to the 400 SB while the 305's are listed at 6.75 size. 400's are external balance and 305's are internal.
If this were a 400 spec balancer that somehow found it's way onto this 305 wouldn't I see more than slight vibration?

Rodder's Roundtable / T-5 Gear swap ?
December 04, 2015, 05:46:10 PM
Thanks Frank, I may be shopping gear sets with you.
I checked out the brit v8 link but I don't have my BW numbers handy.
The S10 NWC was missing it's tag and the sticker was illegible but I know is 90-91 due to the elect. speedo drive.
The WC had no tag but it does have the sticker (I never recorded it) but I remember, from running the numbers, that it's from a 89-90 Camaro and the OD is 0.73. Also, I can report, via the butt dyno, that the S10 1st gear is a lower (feeling) ratio.
This truck is pretty much a Daily D so I aim to minimize downtime with as much info and parts on hand before I pull the trans.

Rodder's Roundtable / T-5 Gear swap ?
December 03, 2015, 11:35:08 PM
I replaced my S-10 NWC box in my `63 C-10 pickup with a WC from a Camaro using the S-10 tail housing . It works fine, in fact I just drove it 675 miles loaded down, pulling a loaded 10 ft. utility trailer in my move to the mtns. of NC
My only complaint is the very high 5th gear @ 0.63. If it's possible I'd like to swap in the gears from the S-10 box, which are 0.73. Will the NWC v WC interchange?
TIA

Rodder's Roundtable / Tuning Edelbrock 4 Barrel

Wayne, as usual I have some assignments to prepare before the next class. All good stuff...you're the best.
idrivejunk, you make a good point and I'd then need to change rods and/or jets as now it's showing fat in cruise and only going to the middle of the lean range of the gauge when I tip in a little. Oh, and it goes into the lean range when I'm pulling a grade also, which seems to bare out the mani. vacuum drop coincidence too.
I have changed rods and jets to leaner already from stock. But if it results (as it well might) in better MPG it'll be worth it.
I don't remember if I dropped 1 stage or more when I made the change to the primaries...and I didn't record what I did. I was bad in school with homework, too. You didn't hear that, Wayne.
