Rodder's Roundtable / MSD timing
September 20, 2004, 12:24:00 AM
I have a question about those distributors too. Mine has hairline cracks at the base, around all four screws where it meets the metal shaft housing. Is this a problem? I didn't think it's like a distributor cap, where it can throw the timing off... but is it possible that it is?

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: '67 Chevy P/U disc brakes
April 26, 2004, 12:40:15 AM
Quote from: "ragdol"Short of finding an original '70 up disc brake setup, what parts can I use to convert '67 Chevy P/U to front discs. I realize that I'll be going from 6 to 5 lugs, no problem there. Or who in the aftermarket makes a conversion? Thanks for any help. Larry.

I remember one fella said he took a 80ish chevy truck, and removed the whole front crossmember, suspension and all. It's held in place by some rivets between the crossmember and frame. Anyhow, he put that frontend under a 67ish C-10. If I remember right, it lined up correctly by the front rivet holes... he just had to drill a couple more using the existing rivet holes as guides. He snagged the master cylinder from the 80 too, to use with the disk.

Rodder's Roundtable / Is this dangerous?

Just about any freeware that doesn't have ads in it is ok. You kinda have to watch out for the ones that use banners in the programs... they often sneak in other forms of advertising, often called "spyware" because it's fairly invasive. If you're getting pop up ads even when you don't have a browser window open, or getting popups at some place like Google.com, then odds are you've got some spyware crap on your machine. The stuff is horrible, it brings machines to a slow crawl. I recommend "Spybot - Search and Destroy"... it's really good. However, it usually "breaks" the program that installed the ads, so you have to decide what's worth putting up with.

I've left the longer bolt in, and tight before... man, what a horrible noise. It didn't break anything, but it gouged the rod a good bit...

Rodder's Roundtable / Any of you guys race R/C cars ?
February 19, 2004, 01:41:34 AM
I was really into them for a while, but not lately. I'd like to get back into them when I can afford it. I had a Hotshot (if you know what that is, you're really dating yourself!) and an Ultima. I also have a USA-1 Monster Truck I got in a trade for the Ultima. Interesting truck with it's twin engines and 4-wheel steering, but it was a good idea with bad execution... it was hard to drive.

I was always messing with them.. twisting armatures, changing the timing at the endbells on the motors, filing gears to make them run smoother... always tweaking. I had an idea of making a 4wd Monster Truck using the USA-1's tires but never built it. I was going to take 4 small cordless drills, and stick the motors and gear reductions in each wheel. I think it would be interesting to play with...

Rodder's Roundtable / Mind Boggling 2
February 18, 2004, 02:38:02 AM
I just turned 33, and i'm on my first "serious" career, as a computer tech. I work for a 2 man shop, where we're kinda "jacks of all trades". Everything from fixing simple email problems to setting up and installing 10K servers. Interesting job because of the variety of problems, but frustrating because I have to dig myself out of serious holes pretty often. There's alot of situations where hitting the wrong button will wipe out a year of someone's work. Better yet is when you're trying to salvage someone's info, and if you lose it, they'll probably go out of business. Folks, if you have data you really need, BACK IT UP! Trust me, it's cheap insurance! Good job, hard work, but a good job.

I'm from WV, but been in CA for 2 years. It's an interesting change of pace. I like Cali, but I miss my backwoods and hills. It's worth it for the girl i'm with, that's for sure. Smart, pretty, and good-hearted.

Car wise, I drive a 67 Mustang, with a 302, C4, and 4.11 gears. Pretty fun car, bit expensive to feed. It's a bit of a pain, because everyone and their cousin wants to race me. I just want to get to work, and i'm getting in heads-up runs with Caddy CTS's. I like crusiers, gonna get me a 65 Riv or a 61 T-bird someday. I really want to build a chopped and channeled Model A sedan with a nailhead, and painted metalflake blue.

Anyhow, that's me, and i'm pleased to meet you.

Rodder's Roundtable / Anyone use Jag front suspensions?
February 15, 2004, 02:40:59 PM
You guys are top notch! I've been looking for that info for 2 weeks on and off. Judging by the widths, it looks feasable, as the mustang's rearend is 58" wide, and it's a safe bet the front is a bit more.

I've just done some quick measurements, and the frame rails are 33" wide (32 if I trim the outside lips off), but it looks like the rear curve of the rails (where they sweep under to the floor) might be a problem. That, and the engine is a front sump, and will most likely be in the way of the jag's crossmemeber. Anyhow, once i get over this flu, i'm gonna do some real measuring, and see if it's possible.

Thank yall so much!

Rodder's Roundtable / Anyone use Jag front suspensions?
February 14, 2004, 08:12:02 PM
I'm desperate for some measurements from a XJ Jaguar from the 70's or 80's. I'm wondering how wide the front is from hub to hub, and how wide apart the sub-frame mounting points are. I've looked all over the internet, but no luck whatsoever.

I'm just kinda curious how it stacks up to a 67 Mustang... if it's a feasable swap, both front and rear. I'm thinking that it could be an effective way to get disk brakes, R&P steering, and decent geometry in one fell swoop. Thanks!

Rodder's Roundtable / re-intro from Mojo

Hi, my name is steve, and i'm a autoholic. I used to be a regular at the RRT back before Fatcat took care of it. After the first one shut down, I just kinda lurked on and off here. I'm fairly regular lurker over at the HAMB, and I reconize several names from there here.

I fix computers for a living, and build 1/8th scale model cars for a hobby. I also do photoshop hacks when I have time. I currently own a 67 Mustang coupe with a 302, 2000rpm stall C4, 8" w/4.11 gears. Fun car, a bit hard on gas, but fun to drive. I'm on the lookout for a 61-62 T-bird, or a 63-65 Riviera. I love cruisers! My dreamcar build would be a channeled 28 Model A Sedan running a multi-carb nailhead, hydro, and rader mags.

Thanks, steve

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: PC help, please!
February 14, 2004, 02:48:24 PM
Quote from: "jaybee"OK, I'm in a lot of trouble here with SWMBO.  Updated our main PC from WinME to WinXP and lost all of our saved email and address book info in the process.  The files are all there, I can navigate to everything that was there before in Explorer.  What am I looking for and how do I get out of the dog house?

You should be able to import them if you're using outlook express 6. Just go to "file", "import", and then follow the bouncing ball from there. If you know where the email files are at, then you've got the hard part covered. Outlook drives me nuts because it basically hides the email files.
