Hi All, I have a 30 roadster with folding top . When I take the top down it goes in a boot and lies in the area between the cockpit and the trunk lid , there are no entry bars like on a stock model, until now I`v had a soft cloth under the boot to keep it from scratching the paint .I now see some very light scratches. So now I`m thinking sewing something permanent to the bottom part of the boot.Question is what. Rabbit fur?

Rodder's Roundtable / Road tour - vapour lock
February 27, 2013, 07:03:34 AM
Hi guys, I`m going on a US. road trip, have a look at, www.lh2013.com
The organizers warn about vapour lock , going through some of the hotter desert states. I`ve read a carb spacer will prevent this , will a spacer have any other affect on the engine operation? Engine is a 350 sbc.
Stock 300 Hp. coated headers in a fendered model A roadster with only the hood top on . Should I be worried.
Thanks Tolle.

Rodder's Roundtable / 700r4 will not downshift
May 05, 2011, 01:37:56 PMQuote from: "Crosley"Need to check for pressure increase as the TV cable is pulled. You can do this while in park , engine at idle. pressure should increase as the TV cable is pulled out.
TV cable should be at FULL pull with the throttle at WOT.
No pressure increase means the inner TV valves are stuck

Rodder's Roundtable / 700r4 will not downshift

Hi guys, one of my buddies owns a 67 corvette 427 cu, 425 hp. with a 700hr4 reinforced bought from the USA it lasted 2 yrs.,his fault, then toast.my friend now chose to have it rebuilt in denmark , and at first off performed well, next day awful, day after on next drive , it will not downshift at all, even with a hard kick? What should we be looking for, too long cable , too short cable
sticky TV valve ? In idle the pressure is 75 psi, and ATF. temp is 140F at normal working temp.It has the correct adapter plate for a edelbrock carb
Any suggegtions ,Tolle Denmark

Hi all,to answer some of the questions, the sending unit is in cylinder head ,driver side. The rad. is a 32 ford so I guess 3-4 gls.I have checked temps witha gun. Both pump and intake have plugged threads.
however , this is what I`ve done , sacrified a old but working 180 d. thermostat I drilled 2 holes 5mm. in the ring surrounding the core put it back in and fired it up ,I could only do it in the garage but it came up to 180 and stayed there with the fan going on and off ,it`s pouring outside. As soon as the wheather permits I will do a road test and only drive it in Drive and see how that effects it.I`ll let you know. Then the 195d. gets drilled.
I have been trying to post pictures but it tells me they are too big I make them smaller and ten it tells me, sorry , you have reached your max. upload limit of 270 KB? Is there also a time limit for doing a post .
Thanks All. Tolle

Hi again, I replied at lenght yesterday even with a picture, it somehow got lost? so thanks for the response.First off I looked up the balanced stat, called 3 different parts shops and none had ever heard about a balanced thermostat.About the gas milage you suggest more revs, could I as a test, drive it DA instead of OD that would give me more revs, but would it damage the transmission?
Wayne:the cooling system consists of the lower hose, upper hose, thermostat with housing and the radiator. no other hoses.
Mikej: I don`ta know about bleed holes , but it is a standard Stant thermostat.
My own thoughts are mabye the pressure from the pump is holding the thermostat open, If I can`ta get hold of a balanced stat. mabye I could run a bypass from the heater holes on the pump?
Regarding gas mileage would it help to lean down the carb 2 steps?

Hi all, I have a couple of problems with my newer sbc. crate engine, under 3000 miles. Its in a steel 30 ford roadster, 2900 lbs.edelbrock intake and carb, 2102+1405, block huggers , walker alum. radiator , 700r4 trans with a jag 3.06 rearend . Thing is it runs too cold , drove to a meet 800 miles , and it never got over 160 f. and gas milage is lousy,I was certain I had a 160f. thermostat in it , but when taken apart it was a 195f. that was not working. So I got a new one checked for function and replaced it . But now it ran cooler ? So today I blocked off the entire front of the radiator and gave it a spin, came right up close to 195f. and stayed there.Should I be thinking about some sort of restrictor in a hose or do you have any other suggestions . The other issue is gas milage , I know a cold running engine will not give you gas milage , but I`m getting 14.1 mpg. Cruising at 1500 rpm. = 54 miles and hardly ever go above 2500 rpm. Any thoughts would be appreciated ( the water pump is a no name alum. deal) Thanks

Rodder's Roundtable / Hot Rod events

Hi again, I will most likely be staying either downtown or in Bellevue, the Maple Valley meet looks ok for our schedule,is it big with lots of rods.
And thanks for all the info!
For Wayne Petty, during the years I´ve brought back thousands of various car parts, after 9/11 things got tough.couldn´t bring stuff into the cabin anymore even as crew! so it was always packed in an unlcked suitcase in case the TAS got curious I always put a fresh copy of Streetrodder alongside the Parts.have often found a note that they have looked closer at my suitcase, never anything missing. I once put a Ron Fracis wiring kit in it, I wonder what that looked like on the X-ray screen?

Do you guys use the original steel spring fasteners on the upholstery door panels, I find they scratch a lot. Anything else like Velcro or ?

Hi Mike , those are the ones.I`ve sold the RPU. found it a little cramped for long trips, and opted for a roadster wich has a nice comfy wise-guy bench seat with armrest.I`ve started tearing it apart for paint this winter
and in the process doing som upgrades, hopefully ready for spring.
Thanks for posting the pic`s
