Rodder's Roundtable / Re: danny's auto glass

[Being originally from Hampton, I can say Danny's had a good rep for standard replacement glass.  Don't know their history with street rod glass.

Rodder's Roundtable / Mustang II Question #997

Thanks, enjenjo.  I'll have to mull this over for a bit before I decide what to do.

Quote from: "enjenjo"It's been my experience with the Mustang manual rack that it steers pretty good as long as you are moving, but when setting still, they are a bear to turn.

Rodder's Roundtable / Mustang II Question #997
May 17, 2005, 10:55:29 AM
How difficult would this AD truck be to steer with a manual rack?  I also use it to haul my Anglia to the track.  This rack replacement and alignment is getting expensive after doing it twice.  How does one tell if the pump is going south?

Quote from: "enjenjo"I would switch to a later Mustang rack. Most crossmembers have one slotted hole for the difference in mounting bosses. On the manual rack, it all bolts in, mounting, tie rod ends, are all the same. The shaft spline is different though, so you will need a different U joint.

Rodder's Roundtable / Mustang II Question #997
May 16, 2005, 04:46:25 PM
Been a while since I have posted, but here goes.  I have a '48 Chevy pickup with power Mustang II steering.  I have been plagued with too much sensitivity (partially fixed with RB's valve), leaks (put in a rebuilt rack), and now extreme notchiness when doing gradual medium-speed turns. It feels in the wheel like the pressure is surging.  Is there another secret to getting all the air out.  I did what the directions said, turning slowly from lock to lock.  I also had a buddt tell me to turn it hard lock and shut the engine down, wait one minute and go hard lock the other way and then shut it off again.  Didn't help.

I'm about ready to push the whole thing off a cliff.  What would it take to convert to a manual rack?  Outer tie rods the same?  Mounting location the same?  Would it be too hard to steer around town or while maneuvering a loaded car trailer?  Thanks in advance for the help.  I know this question has been addressed before but I couldn't find it in the archives.

I bought my '48 Chevy pickup in Calgary, Alberta and I live near Seattle.  I was stopped at the border driving it back into the states.  One, no license plate BUT I had a transport temporary sticker from Washington.  So they let that go.  Two, I had to inventory all the spare sheetmetal I had in the bed.  They never looked at my list.  Three, no certifications were required because of the gae of the vehicle. B-U-T............ if the engine is not original AND is newer than 20 years, you must have either (I don't remember which) DOT or EPA papers.  They were being sneaky and asked me the size of my SBC 305.  I told them it was a 327.  They lookes in a book, saw it was older than 20 years, and let me go.  Just had to fill out several sheets of paperwork.  BTW, the truck was Canadian-made.

Rodder's Roundtable / No Low in Drive - Turbo 350

I think my tranny is getting ready to take a dump.  Noticed a few days ago that it is taking off in Second from a stop.  Also noticed occasionally when sitting at a stop the truck shifts from First to Second while sitting, kinda like getting a light tap in the rear.  It will manually shift into Low and can be upshifted into each gear successfully from Low and Low-Second.  Fluid level is good, doesn't smell like burned toast.  Please tell me it is just a simple external adjustment involving a wrench and/or a screwdriver.  BTW, this is in my '48 Chevy pickup with a 305 SBC in front.  Thanks in advance for your help in this.  Gotta keep it reliable; it's my daily driver.

I also used CR Laurence in the Seattle area for the quarter window glass weatherstripping seal for my '48 Anglia.  Commercial glass people know this supplier.  Found what I needed ...............

I went to www.monroe.com when I was looking for a certain shock.  I wanted a certain upper and lower mounting configuration, along with a certain min and max length.  Got it all there, then went to an auto parts store and bought 'em

I plan on it.  Both my hot rods ('48 Anglia and '48 Chevy pickup) are primer gray with purple flames.  Definitely not show material......  I enjoy the show every year.
