Rodder's Roundtable / 32 Roadster Update

that's awesome don. the wheel and tire combo looks really good i think, despite the new paint's totally different look to the ultra-patina'd body.

the car looks grouse. i'm jealous.

i lived out in the country near eugene oregon a while back, and there were raccoons in abundance...

one of them found the cat flap one day, and i swear to god he deliberately destroyed everything he could find. EVERY single box/tub/jar/bag of food was torn out of the pantry and strewn across the floor, it was an absolute disaster area!

now, back home in oz, i've got brush-tail possums to contend with. don't get me wrong, mind you, i'm quite an animal lover and usually enjoy the company of furry-fellas, but recently (when i sealed the roof and basement of my house to possum-proof them) one of them ate through the paper i have sealing the cabin of my car in the shed (mid-respray) and starting living under the drivers seat!!! AAARGHH!

if i wasn't so nice i'd kill the little son-of-a...

i agree, take it to the right place and get the right stuff.

when i was young my dad must've replaced the rear view mirror (with different adhesives) 15 times in a year. one day he finally cracked the sads and chucked it in the bin...

Tech Archive / LED tail light problems
April 28, 2004, 09:58:15 AM
i know you've solved this bit but i'll mention it just for interests sake:

if you had the incorrect wire hooked to ground none of them would have worked. LED's are light emitting diodes. diodes are a one way electricity valve, basically, so unlike a standard incandescent bulb, you can't pump the juice in the wrong way... and in fact if you do the likely result is a bunch of dead LED's.

what always gets me when wiring things is that, in most discussions of electical nature, we talk about the "flow" going from positive to negative, but i know that in actual fact the electrons are streaming from negative to positive. then i get the wires in my head crossed when i think too hard about it, connect everything up in a random assortment of +ve's and -ve's, and the thing doesn't work.

then i crack it, swear for a while, and come back into the house to read messageboards...

Rodder's Roundtable / electronic speedometers
March 25, 2004, 07:02:03 AM
stupid question coming up!

how do electronic speedometers work? do they just accept a pulse from the box or do different senders require different speedo units?

basically, i have a toyota supra gearbox in my ute, which was originally part of a conversion that included a mechanical speedo drive out of the usually electronic spot. then i blew that gearbox up, fitted another one in a rush, and haven't had a working speedo since (because the new box wasn't modified for the mechanical drive).

now i want to whack a new set of guages in, and figure i might as well convert to an electronic speedo... any complications ahead for me?

Quote from: "Fat Cat"Sue pokes him with a 5 meter pole.

if i may be picky... a METRE is slightly more than a yard. a METER is a device  that measures somtthing. like a water meter, or a speedometer.

but then again, you yanks spell LITRE the wrong way too, so maybe you don't have the same distinction...

i'm looking at that, and your age in the bar on the left and thinking she must be ancient!

when i'm 71, my mum will be 108 (if she makes it!)...
