Rodder's Roundtable / Speedometer cable
December 29, 2008, 07:34:41 PM
Well I picked up the 55 ford truck speedo cable today at the parts store. It worked out perfect. But the label on the package said for GM cars and trucks. Cool huh.

Thanks guys for the reply. I also found that Chrysler used the same speedo cable from 1955 to 1983. It looks just like the 55 ford truck cable and the cross reference says they are the same. That may work for your powerglide to mopar speedo.

Rodder's Roundtable / EGR valve blockoff
December 29, 2008, 10:37:28 AM
I left mine on the engine and blocked the vacume hose with a small ball bearing. That way it appears to be functional, but never opens. This may be wrong but engine seems to run fine. I had asked this question a long time ago and that is what was suggested to me.

Hello Folks

I need to purchase a speedo cable for my car. It has a Chevy 5 speed B/W trans. I'm using a 49 ford speedometer. Research has lead me to think I can use a 55 ford truck cable, or a 67 ford cable for automatic. I need for both ends to screw on. The speedo looks like it might be a 5/8". The trans apears to fit and old chevy cable I had laying around the garage. I think it might be 7/8".

Suggestions Please  :)

Hey Guys,

I just purchased a new project, Its a 1930 Modal A Coupe. The guy I bought it from sold me rolling chassis and body. The chases is set up for a small block chevy and th350 trans. I would like to put a 1966 327 I have been sitting on for a few years and a more modern 5 speed manual trans. I have been researching the net to see what a good chose of donor trans would be. Will I have to move trans mount if I went with a nv3500 or a t5 from a blazer or s10?I would like to buy a donor vehicle and be able to use trans, bell housing, clutch and all other components if thats possible. Any suggestions?  :D

I'm going.  I'm gonna try to get me one of those weld in battery boxes. The ones where you can locate the battery under the front fender. I have decided not to put it in the trunk. Although the trunk on a 36 Chevy looks big from the outside its rather small. I want to keep all the space I can for the important stuff, like a cooler and chairs..... :D

I have a correction.....The manifolds need to come from an "A" body car.
I have read and seen where guys have used a cavalier rack with their stock front suspension. If you do that then the A body manifolds would not be needed. I think a company called "plydo" makes the kit for the cavalier rack. They also make kits to switch to disc brakes on the front. There's alot you can do with that old plymouth and they really look cool in my opinion.... :D

A Mopar friend of mine is putting a 318 in 48 Dodge. He claims that the 318 is as dependable and fuel efficient as any small block Chevy or Ford.

He is using a truck oil pan, it looks a lot like a chevy oil pan and it clears your steering componants. He is using the exhaust manifolds from the "B" body cars, I think. The driver side will curve right around your steering shaft.  I just like the Idea of keeping them as close to all one brand when it comes to body, motor and drive train. Although, I can go for anything if its done right and lools good. Just my opinion, and you know what they say.......

Why not keep it Chrysler and put 318,340, or 360 in it. With the right exhaust manifolds and oil pan it will fit right in.  :)  :)

I used to have a 36 5 window Plymouth coupe. I built it fenderless in the front and cut down fenders in the back. Open hood with small block Chevy.

My next door neighbor insisted that it was a "Dune Buggy" I would just laugh and go on about my business.

I now have a 36 Chevy 2 door sedan full fendered and she says it a "Bonnie and Clyde" Car.  :D  :D  :D  8)
