Rodder's Roundtable / Fiberglass shape forming....
July 30, 2005, 08:38:46 PM
What you are supposed to use is polyurethane foam.
It's usually green and very easily shaped though quite messy when doing so.
Lay the glass right over the top of it and then dig it out once cured.
I've heard of people dissolving it in petrol but haven't tried that one.
Go to my weblink and you see some examples of it's use.

Left? Centre? Right?
It's all pretty meaningless to me.
Why be limited other people's boundaries

Gilles.
I tried to mount two Lockheeds in my A roadster, which was also too low for a conventional booster under the floor. The rear one was easy enough because it fitted up in the rear kickup but I couldn't find a decent location for the front one. You could mount it up under the dash but this may create a nightmare when trying to bleed air out of the thing.
As was mentioned earlier in this thread you could always just boost the front brakes. Many Aussie cars of the late 60s that were fitted with discs front and drums rear used this set up. They used the PBR VH44 booster. To balance the brakes they had different sized rear wheel cylinders. Maybe a variable proportioning valve would to the same thing.

A bit more info.
You're looking at an Alfa Berlina, 69 to 71 vintage.
They used either the Lockheed, Bonaldi or Benditalia boosters.
The latter two were also used on many other Italian cars of that vintage and are a copy of a Dunlop booster.
The Lockheed was indeed made in the UK and was used on many British cars  and Volvos. Maybe even a few French cars

Here's a pic of a couple of Lockheeds in a Lotus.

Alfa Romeos, pre 1974 (Guliettas), had dual power vac boosters mounted in the engine compartment with a dual 7/8 bore master cylinder under the floor.
I have a set and they were made by Lockheed, English I think because the fittings are imperial.
Others I have seen are Italian, probably ATE. They are a bit more compact than the Lockheed ones.
These may be a bit easier for you to source in Europe.

I would be cautious about going any less than 7/8 on the master cylinder. I think you're better off selecting the master cylinder bore and stroke to suit your wheel cylinders and then look at either a booster or increasing pedal ratio to reduce pedal effort.

Now I know why the Japanese manufactures refer to "European" styling when marketing their cars.
Trying to distance themselves from that lot.

Very nice Charlie  8)
I notice that the engine is offset. Was that too give you some more legroom or to provide space for the carbies.
When I first started building my car I tried something similar but couldn't move the engine over far enough due to it being a fairly wide twin cam. I ended up getting around the legroom problem a different way. See my web link.
Next time tho I'll do the rear engine thing so I can make some real deep footwells and sit down real low.

That's very similar to the rexrod I have been envisioning for some time  :D
I started out with 27T body but have settled for an A instead (in my mind that is). Same nose as well, so it's good to hear who makes them as I wasn't looking forward to making my own.
What powerplant you using? Mine was going to be something a bit different.
A WRX flat 4 in the pickup bed. Already measured one up and it fits easy.

Glad to see you still have the passion Greg  :D

Carps, are you sure that this event was in Melbourne?
I mean, the sky looks a little too blue and the rain just a little too heavy.
From what I can remember it's all grey skies and drizzle down there this time of year.
Must be that global warming thing.
Great pic BTW

Typical Victorians, always trying to stir up trouble
I'm beginning to think that what a certain SD has going around saying might have a ring of truth to it

But in the end who was it that gave me lift to the servo.
Not a bloody Victorian  :P

Stoopid question, but I only ask coz I've done this myself, are the bleed screws at the top of the calliper?

Or another stoopid one. Have you got the front and rear reservoirs mixed up? nearly done that once

QuoteBCAL was missing, apparently stranded on the Thunderdome as a result of being too cheap to buy fuel.
Note: the only rodder who stopped and helped me out came from this side of the Murry
Jimbob, pass on my thanx :D
