LINCOLN dropped the GM HYDRA-MATIC IN 1954 and used (I am fairly certain) the MERC-O-MATIC Single Range 3/S until they designed their own heavy LX in mid-1958 named the TWIN-TURBO Dual Range.
Yes, it is a good trans (HD FORD-O-MATIC) and can be modified.
