Rodder's Roundtable / 1954 Studebaker project
January 26, 2017, 11:02:06 PM
Last weekend, I started prepping the front frame rails to accept jaguar XJS front suspension clip.  I'm splicing in a 16" long piece of 2x3 to replace the spring pockets in the original frame rails to give a nice place for the jag stuff to nest.  I'm gonna fishplate all of the seams too.

I plan on keeping the 15x6 jag wheels and skinny tires to make the wimpy six as much fun as possible.

Quote from: "butch27"Pretty good body.

It is a pretty decent car on the back half.  I wish I got ahold of it two previous owners ago.

We picked up a 1954 Stude coupe.  It looks like somebody had tried to build a mild drag car.  It supposedly had a cadillac of some sort in it in the past. It came with a fiberglass front cap, hood, rear deck, dash and bumpers...and a nice looking aluminum radiator  The rear body and doors look pretty decent.  Not 100% sure exactly what we are doing with it, probably just a street car.  Kinda thinking about sticking a 1954 Jaguar engine and trans that we have in it.  Dad likes the exhaust note of old jags and has yet to find a good use for this motor.  Kinda thinking about 70's jag suspension, but think it may be too wide.

Yeah I saw you walk by once, but I was talking to somebody else at the time.   I never saw you again.

It is hard enough to keep the truck from being a full time work bench as is....

Well,  This project stalled big time....but I think I'm gonna work on it again.  I went to the Bunny Run in Jackson, TN this weekend and found a gas tank that looks like it will work for this thing.  It is a plastic fuel cell with an aluminum sheet metal cover.  I can't find anything like it online, but it looks like it will work for me.

When I got home, I posed it for pictures.  looks like I have room to move it up and back if needed.

We went today and had a good time.  According to an app on my daughter's phone, we walked 27,000 steps (over 14 miles) just on the big parking lots and inside.  The grassy side was muddy where we tried...and we were really were to tired for mud, so we went home.

I did bump into George Poteet.  He said that he may get to do some shakedown runs in the Speed Demon if Mike Cook can find enough good salt.

Recent car counts have been right at 4,000 cars.  There are several newer hotels near the by-pass.  Henderson, KY has been cheapest in the past.

Now that I have switched to Fargo big truck front sheetmetal...not sure about the Ford headlights.  Can the ford logos be sanded off?
