in germany...I think it doesn't matter which Mercedes you drive...they're so expensive that even a a-class Mercedes has a bit of prestige. But I think in Germany even the real expensive Mercedes aren't real prestige cars, because you see them too "often"...the most are real everyday cars.
For example: I live in rural area and even here you often see an AMG high performance model like new SL55, Slk55, ML65, E55 and 63 or R65.
A funny fact: though I don't live close to a factory,. our area has the highest concentration of Mercedes Benz in whole germany!
Tomorrow, my grandfather (nearly 82) collects his new C-class 220CDI (the new one) from the factory in Bremen...around 100kms from our home.

I know what you mean..have a lot of pictures with cars in that condition or worse....most are worse.
but this Peugeot is the worst ...
but you can also find some solid rare cars in Europe..
I found the most photos by searching the internet for weeks! I have around 3500... the photos from the yard in northern germany were taken by a friend of mine.

I told you that I visited the new Mercedes Benz Museum..maybe you're interested in some photos!?
'91 560 SEC in front of the museum. (my dad's car)
the oldest existing Mercedes
Mercedes Streamliner "Autobahnkurier"
early eighties car transport with 4 Mercedes from that time in timewarp condition...if you ask me, it's amazing!
exact replica of fifties Mercedes racecar transporter
old forward control fifties truck with twin steering axle
old truck from the fourties
The "Grosser Mercedes" which was owned by the leading * in the second world war...
edit: funny that N A Z I S is censored automatically. Thought only the germans have problems with their foretime. Don't think that I like the 3rd Reich and everything that deals with it (except the vehicles ) I don't like what happened but I think it's part of our history or the world's history and we should talk about it without beeing scared and we should keep it in mind so that the following generations won't make the same mistakes again.
the pope's car
a lot to see and these photos are only a little example for the great cars you can see there

June 13, 2007, 05:02:56 PMQuote from: "58 Yeoman"Quote from: "Motoraver"don't know if he bought it new or nearly new!? He owns an eighties Chevy Caprice...maybe he drove the Caddy befor the chevy and didn't want to sell it!? I will try to find out.
A lot of farmers used to do that in my area. When they bought a new car, the old one would be put out to pasture, and sit there with the windows shot out, etc.
luckily,no stupid boy broke the windows or something, 'n' everything is still in its place. I wonder how the car survived such a long time in the garden without bigger damages or signs of heavy rust.

June 13, 2007, 05:00:47 PMQuote from: "58 Yeoman"Sometime back in the 80's, I bought a whole bunch of VW parts, tools, and a few cars from the widow of a man who'd worked on Vdubs for years. One of the cars sitting in the backyard was an old Beetle convertible. I cut the weeds down in front of it and hooked on the tow bar and started pulling. The front half came with me, while the back half stayed put. I'm thinking this car will be the same, only top and bottom will separate.
that's what I tried to say man I have a lot of pictures with rotten cars like the one you described...so if you want to see them, then we could start a little scrapyard thread...the most photos are from europe.

I think it would be a wonder if the car won't break into pieces, when they try to pull it out of its grave.

I hope so ,too...but I don't think that he will sell the car. I think it's the same old story, which everyone of you knows. "I will fix it some day..." But maybe I have luck. But then I have to sell my daily driver. Don't have a classic at the moment. Only a Mazda MX5 (Miata in the US) but it's pretty cool in british racing green.
@rayvyn: Oh, wine festival..didn't hear anything about it but it's typical for the region. Why the hell do you know that??

June 13, 2007, 07:24:09 AMQuote from: "58 Yeoman"WOW! A '58 Caddy. That's a good find, even in the States. Looks like an American plate on it?
I think that it isn't a real american plate...you can buy these plates on bigger meetings with various motives. They are used for show only. I think it's the same with this plate. I will show the pictures to my friend. He owns a 58 caddy like that but in original condition and a 55 Oldsmobile Rocket 88.
@Rayvyn: Don't know what you mean with the first of october. The only thing I know would be the "Oktoberfest" in Munich.

Here I am again guys!
I know I didn't write anything the last weeks but I wrote my final exams and stuff like that and hadn't a lot of time. The last days, I visited my brother in Stuttgart. One evening, it was already dark, we walked around the area he lives in (ca. 500m from the Porsche factory ). So we passed a house of an older man who owns a eighties Chevrolet Caprice Sedan since new. When we passed by his house I looked up his driveway and saw a little bit of chrome shining out of the dark. Didn't know that moment what car it could be but thought that it should be a american car from the fifties. The situation reminded me of John Carpenter's movie "Christine". I think you'll understand me, when you look at the photos.
Next day, I went to the house again to see what car it is and to take some photos.
So here they are...
didn't expect a car like that standing in a backyard for years in a large german city without being removed or bought by a collector... The next time I come to Stuttgart, I will try to contact the owner. The car seems to be in a solid condition though it is standing for years in that garden without protection.
I also visited the brand new Mercedes Benz Museum...so if you want to see some photos: say somethin' !!!
Excuse my bad english...didn't write too much in english the last weeks.
