Mike,

I have a photo of a 40 Ford hood with a new latch adapted to it.  Unfortunately, I haven't been able to post it to the forum or even upload it to a server I have access to.  PM me or send me an e-mail at grobins@vt.edu and I'll send it to you.

With four wheel studs, the car was a 6-cylinder and the rear was most likely a 7.5-inch. If it has a rear inspection cover like the GM rears or the current Ford 8.8 rears, it is a 7.5-inch unit.  If it has a removable third member it is an 8-inch rear.  The 7.5-inch rears are too weak to be of any use.

Quote from: "Crosley"it looks about the correct size.

I have been trying to find a photo of a wrecker that is in the International Towing museum in Chattanooga Tennessee.  It is a small wrecker I saw on the TV show Trucks

link.... http://www.internationaltowingmuseum.org/

I wish I had known before Christmas, I drive through Chattanooga every year on the way to Mississippi to visit my mom.  I could have stopped and taken a CD full of pictures for you.  If you don't have what you want by next Dec., let me know and I'll see what I can do for you.  I'm serious!  (I also remember that segment on Trucks, but don't recall the truck your referring to.)

Quote from: "enjenjo"We added a new feature to the board, anyone notice it? You like it or not?

If your talking about the preview of the first line of the message as you mouse over the topic, yes, definately.

Quote from: "enjenjo"Just to warn you, when I had my break in, after they settled, the next renewal date, Nationwide canceled my homeowners insurance. And since I had a claim within a year, I had some difficulty getting a good rate from any other insurers.

The same company did the same thing to my father-in-law.  He was a radio amature and lighting struck one of his towers.  They paid the claim (it was only a few hundred dollars) but dropped him at the next billing cycle.

Somebody over at the HAMB did a tech on this during the past year.  I don't remember who and can't search 'cause I only lurk over there.  IIRC, there was an extensive discussion of the safety aspects of the process and additional links.

It turned out that the power booster on my 65 T-bird was bad.  (I think its a broken internal spring.)  I've decided that since I'm going to have things apart anyway, I would upgrade to a dual-reservoir master cylinder.  I've seen postings on other boards about swaps on 64 and 65 T-birds using master cylinders from a 73 Mustang and a 67 T-bird and have corresponded with one of the posters.  That person used the 67 T-bird MC, but said he had to install a 1/2-inch spacer between the MC and booster.  My question is, how can I minimize my trial and error in selecting a MC and how can I determine if and how much of a spacer is/will be needed when installing the MC onto the rebuilt T-bird power booster.  I haven't been able to find anything online that gives any information about MC piston travel or booster pushrod length.  I'm not opposed to trial and error experimentation, I just can't afford too much of it.   :)

Thanks enjenjo!  I hope to be able to do the troubleshooting tomorrow, if the weather cooperates.

Rodder's Roundtable / 65 T-bird brakes
November 25, 2004, 10:57:49 PM
Hi all.  My 65 T-bird (disk front, drum rear, single res. MC) has recently developed a brake problem.  They work fine, but after lifting my foot from the pedal, they don't release completely.  If I pull the pedal up with my foot, they release.  It exhibited itself halfway through a 300 mile trip to MD (new home) from SW VA (old home).

I'm thinking that it might be 1 or more weak or broken return springs on the rear shoes (that or a combination of rust and old age).  Does anyone have any other suggestons as to what I might check?  Thanks in advance.

Glad you're ok.  My dad died of a heat attack at 43, I'm 47 now.  At least my wife is a CCU nurse.

Rodder's Roundtable / A few Richmond, VA show pics
February 15, 2004, 10:05:39 PM
The wife and I went to an indoor show in Richmond Saturday.  It wasn't a huge show, just 75 cars or so.  The weather has been so bad recently that I just had to get away and do something car related.  I thought I'd post some pictures of what I thought were some of the nicer cars there.

The uploads worked on the test forum, I hope they work here. Apologies for the quality, I can't compete with Don.
