I too have never met your dad...but I know how difficult it is when the most special man in your life is gone.  Prayers and good thoughts go out to you and your family.  Ron.

Rodder's Roundtable / Is the Boss Hog really boss?
January 13, 2007, 09:56:05 AM
Unitl I shopped on ebay for a converter I had never seen a "Boss Hog" converter either.  I usually run a TCI and they cost hundreds of dollars...but I never had to question the quality.

I paid less than a hundred for this converter, new, and that may be what worries me more than anything.  The old "nothing that's cheap is good thing."

I can't remember ever seeing a converter coming out of a car either...but my feet actually lay against the floor on either side of the converter in this car.  Makes me nervous.

After talking with my buddy...dragrcr50...I think I am going to run the 2200 stall converter and see if it will work out.  This is a new car and I have no idea how the entire drivetrain package will work.

I bought a "Boss Hog" converter a while back (just a 2200 stall) and have not installed it.  Now I have decided to go with a 3800-4200 stall converter and I see that "Boss Hog" make one of those as well.

Has anyone had any bad experiences with the "Boss Hog" brand of converter?  I will be running it in my antique gas dragster and would really like to keep my feet and legs attached and usable.  Thanks for your feedback in advance.................Ron.

Man I am going to miss OGHD.  I get a 30 minute lunch break at the new job so it is an impossibility to make it to the south side.

You should post pictures of the Nova...talk about a silk purse from a sow's ear.  What you and Joe have done to help that ugly puppy is nothing short of remarkable.  It is going to be a throw down cool, nose in the air,  bad to the bone gasser when it is done.  What do you think...10.90s???

I am no transmission expert by any means...but I understand a little about how they work.  The vent tube and pan gaskets that you mentioned I believe are in a low pressure area in the transmission, where the fluid returns.  The only area that I am aware of that is down low where there is pressure is at the governor.  I think there are some o rings in there and a piston that moves in and out with road speed.  I guess I am wondering if at speed the governor could be leaking when the piston changes lcoation.  Good luck...I hope you find you leak.

I ran a crossram many years ago and had a similar problem.  I finally got a set of Moroso tall chromes to go on.  I was running roller rockers too.  The first time I pulled the intake...put the covers on then put the intake on.   Had to make special wrench to tighten the bolts since they were back under there.  What a hassel...then I found out I could pull them off.  Glad you found the answer.....Ron.

She is indeed a thing of beauty.  First car I have ever seen that is so ugly that a dog would not * on it.  I think I would name it "Nightmare,"  because it has given me nighmares since seeing it.  Cam said he is going to drive out this weekend to see it for himself...maybe you ought to see if the circus would want it like it is...they could sell tickets.

Rodder's Roundtable / Tranny Coolers

I personally wouldn't worry about running a trans cooler in the radiator unless you have a marginal cooling problem with your engine.  I have run all kinds and makes of remote coolers, I have been using frame mounted coolers recently, and have never had a problem with one if it is mounted where it gets air and is protected from road debris.....good luck

Rodder's Roundtable / Pinion angle help
October 26, 2006, 10:50:53 PM
I have always been taught that you want a difference of between 1 and 1 1/2 degrees.  I searched this on the internet recently and the experts, like Moser don't agree.

I have learned the hard way that if the pinion is below the output shaft...that the drive shaft will move toward the trans under acceleration (squat).  I broke a tail shaft when the driveshaft didn't have enough travel.  Good luck..........

It has been quite a while...but I believe I used a early 70's camaro 12 bolt in my car.  I didn't even have to move the spring pads...just slid it in and bolted it down.  Good luck with your build.
