For a steering box try a late 60's Cougar. Two of the three mounting holes supposedly a perfect match, you have to drill the third hole.

Try Restoration Specialties in PA. They have all kinds of odd ball stuff for trim work.

Rodder's Roundtable / Just one more brake type question!!

What kind of front brakes and master cylinder are you using. If you are using a stock master and have drum brakes all around, you don't need a residual valve because the master already has one.
If you are running discs in the front, make sure the master you are using does not have a residual valve and it is for drum/disc brakes.. Then you need the residual valve for both front and backs with the frame mounted master.
As others have stated, the residual valves should go nearest the master as possible.

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: Holes?

If this just started I would replace (or check out) the thermostat. It sounds like the engine is heating up because the thermostat is closed and then the stat opens, letting the engine go back to normal operating temperature. It may be a little slow in opening up.
Quote from: "Jokester"When I bought this car (33 Chev sedan 327) the previous owner had drilled and tapped holes in the intake manifold that open into the water jacket at the rear of the heads. He had 3/8" hose plumbed forward and hooked into the upper radiator hose. He said he had done it because "all those small blocks run hot". I took all that junk off and plugged the holes and have been running it for 3 years without overheating. On the highway it just touches the red, but I never lose any water or boil over. I can idle around the fairgrounds at a 180.
Recently I have noticed that the gauge goes to the hot peg after about a 2 mile drive. By the time I find a place to pull off the road and check things out, the car is back to 180 degrees. Then it runs correctly the rest of the day. It just pegs the gauge on the initial warmup. I've changed the sender and the thermostat with no change. I'm assuming the gauge is bad.
This weekend at a car show, I saw an original 50s rod that was right out of the barn. It had a small block with a blower on it. It had holes drilled and tapped at the same location as mine, and there were petcocks installed there. Has anyone ever run into this before? Are the petcocks to let air out when filling the radiator or what?
Any ideas?
thx,
bjb

There are a number of guys on FORDBARN that swear by using vinegar. They fill the system, run it a while (On the road) then dump it. Supposed to clean out everything.

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: 58 Ford 9" Brake hubs to 76 Granada hubs
June 12, 2007, 11:10:11 PM
What do you mean by "hubs" as there are no hubs on Ford 8 or 9 inch rears. Are you trying to put 8 inch Granada brakes on a 9 inch rear? I didn't know this is possible. There may have been a 9 inch Granada rear, but they must be pretty rare.
Quote from: "Erick"I think this was covered before but I can't find it. I'm putting the rear brake hubs from a 76 Granada onto a 58 Ford 9". The pilot hole on the Granada drum is larger than that on the axle. Is there a good way to set this up to keep the drum centered? I'm not sure if making something for it would be best, or if there are drums that will work.
Thanks, Erick.

If the windows presently use (or can use) the stock assembly, Nu Relics has a motorized version of them. Very nice. I have them in my 48 (with the vent windows) and they work very good. www.nu-relics.com

Nice car - like the wheels - glad you didn't go with those 18-20 inchers, most look like crap in early cars.

Rodder's Roundtable / Silicone Brake Fluid??
March 25, 2007, 11:20:15 PM
I've used silicone fluid in my 48 for 20 years - absolutely zero problems with it. I recommend it, especially since it stops the car and doesn't eat paint.
