Rodder's Roundtable / Painting a gas tank question
April 28, 2015, 06:07:51 PM
Quote from: "57larry"thank you for the replys. didn't know it had a coating, we probably will not paint it now. thanks again, Larry
Its not the outside that you need to worry about. Theres no coating on the inside and thats where the rust comes from that causes problems.  Tank sealer from POR 15 is the best I have found and I have been sealing tanks for about 30 years, I've done so many I wish I had counted them.

Rodder's Roundtable / 34 Ford build

Quote from: "kb426"How many more items will you find? Was this a high mileage car or one built from used parts?

The car sat for about 15 years without moving. It was put back in service after that without any thing cleaned or changed outside of the fuel system. I am addressing those things now.
Steering problem may be a difference in length of wheel base  so measure both sides

I just found my old post. Since then the car got 16" wheels, dropped axle, fully synchronized 3 speed w/overdrive, new brakes with a combination of 1939 Lincoln backing plates, 40 Ford drums and 76 Chevy shoes, dropped floor in the trunk and a picture taken at night.

edit: how to make the picture bigger?

Quote from: "Charlie Chops 1940"The bell housing pattern on the 4.3 V-6 is the same as Chevy V-8's.

Thats exactly what I was trying to say

I just got a 1999 S-10 5 speed from a 4.3 and have been looking for info. It seems that this transmission will work on a SBC . The 2.2 transmission is different

I talked to Tom Herber Friday and he said that Bob Wilson, Wilson Welding is in extremely bad health too.  I promise you dont want a description of what Bob is going through

Rodder's Roundtable / Did you really just say that?
April 27, 2010, 12:19:47 AM
I recently went into advance auto and asked for a 40 inch fan belt.
They were unable to help me since its not for a make and model.
They couldnt look it up.
They DID let me go in the back and get one.
I showed them where the 40 in the part number equals the size.

Another time I asked the store manager for a heater hose shut off valve.
she asked me. "What is that?"

ummm, I just told you!

Another time I sent my young son to  that store  and he asked the same manager for a ballast resistor.
She asked, "Whats it for?"
59 Ford
"We dont carry those."
My kid knows a little and asked for one for a 73 Ford pickup.
"We dont carry those either."

They PROMOTED her!

Rodder's Roundtable / Where are the Model T coupe bodys?

The very first Model A's were referred to as AR's because they had some Model T parts on them. I learned this from an old gent who restored a Model AR. .

Dont you hate it when the 'old gents' spread misinformation like this?

The Model A was 'The New Ford'.
I dont think you will find a single T part carried into A use.
The AR designation applied to obsoleted parts, of which there were many.
By the time Henry had made the first 5000 Model As, he had made 5500 changes in the parts.
These obsoleted parts got the designation, "AR" in the parts listing.
There are several very good websites dedicated to the true story of the Ts and As

Quote from: "butch27"Seems to me that the '27s are the most available year of Fords. Something about the changing  to model "A"s?? So they must have built tons of '26-'27s beforehand.

Actually its the 26's that are common.
Henry shut down 1927 production for the changeover to Model As,
I think it was April of 1927
It took months to restart production but there are Model As that were built in 1927

Where is the next chapter?

Even tho HarborFreight is almost all junk, their M2 index was recommended to me and so far I have been impressed with those bits.

The best method I have is to use two 1/4" self tapping screws. One to pour out of, the other to let air in as you pour. I put one in the lid, one in the side of the can near the top.  Keep it sealed as much as possible, by pouring small amounts in another container to work out of.  I never leave a can open more that about 15 seconds.
The  important thing is to keep the POR in the refrigerator at all times.
For those who dont know, you can wash and re-use the brush.  Use gasoline

Rodder's Roundtable / sunpro tachometer

Nebbermind.

The info on the Sunpro website for 3.5 inch whiteface tachs is wrong.

The correct info for 3.5 tachs is listed under the 5 inch  information.

Of course! I shudda known THAT!
