Rodder's Roundtable / B'ville salt conditions?
August 10, 2006, 04:56:08 PM
Tom Burkland told us he had walked the course and he is stoked.  He is loading his 500 MPH (potential) streamliner and will be on his way to the salt today.

That kid is a busy guy isn't he?  Thanks for asking about me guys.  I have lost a lot of weight but I'm still maintaining a positive attitude about life.  Having good friends makes that a little easier.  I plan on being on the salt in August and the GG gig in Pleasanton.  Also Scottsdale if things go well.
Bless you all for your thoughts.

Nice work Junior!  I especially liked the "whygoby" tub at Socal.

Denise, bless your heart for doing this.  Due to my fairly recent diagnosis I hadn't been involved or even knowledgeable about the "Relay for Life" program.  As I've found out it is a big deal around here with most of the cities organizing their own "walk".  My wife Linda and I participated in the Ogden, Utah walk last week and were overwhelmed by the support of local businesses and individuals.  There is a lot of love out there.
I have learned that you, my friends, and my family are far more important than any material things an individual may acquire.  I have the good fortune to have friends from all over the USA, Canada, and Australia calling me and wishing me well.  What a wonderful bunch of people.  All of you need to realize what a great fraternity we have and take every opportunity to get together for whatever reason.  Mickey and I have been buddies for more than 47 years and many of you have met us as we have traveled to many places together.  Now we both face a serious situation, together.  We intend to be at the salt for Speedweek and any other event that we can attend.  We love all of you guys and hope so see you soon.  Even you Bobby
Thanks to all of you and best wishes to Steve.

Last summer we stopped by Wescotts in Oregon and had a look at their new 5 window body.  It looked good but I don't know if they are in production yet.  I have always heard good things about Dee's products.  They come with a 2-2 1/2" chop.

As was mentione above, I always take an old car cover to cover the car.  I hope that what they can't see won't tempt them.  So far so good.  Parking in a well lit place is a good idea.  Discussing the situation with the night clerk helps, at least they might take a peak at the lot during their shift.  Once in a while they will let you park under the awning area next to the front door.  Good insurance is a good investment just in case.

Blower motors are a lot more than intimidating to look at.  They are also a blast to drive on the street.  Lot's of torque and instant response.  I put over 50,000 miles on my mild 355 Chev with a B&M 250 blower before tearing it down for a refresh this winter.  It is now ready to go back in the '34 as soon as the body and paint are finished.  I urge any of you who are interested to try one.  You don't have to dump any more money in a mild engine with blower than you would a non-blown motor with the same power.

Rodder's Roundtable / Going LSR racing . . . in a truck

Thanks Jim, don't give that bed away unless you contact me first.  The Motel 6 would be great.  I'm still looking for something where Mickey and I can stay together and I don't have to sleep with him
How is the sedan running in the cool weather you are enjoying?

Hi Doug, If you have air in the '65 on the salt you may become a very popular fellow.  The '34 is next in line for paint.  Batch has done a lot of work making the body lazer straight and it will be black again.  If all goes well I'll have it on the road by spring.  Thanks for asking!

It sounds like a great project Mike.  I've allways loved old trucks and the ones you have are some of my favorites.  My medical situation is progressing well and I just hope I can get a room for Speedweek.  I got out of the hospital and called all of the hotels with no luck.  I hope the usual cancellations occur as we get closer to August.

I also got a true-track for my 9" after making a lot of smoke at the drags during the 2002 Ego-Rama.  I also used Randy's Ring and Pinion.  I went with a set of 3:50 gears, up from a set of 3:00's that I ran before.  I run a blown small block so the open rear end was kinda scary when I got on it.  The true-track works great and I like the fact that I don't have to add anything to the fluid.  I's recommend it!

I know that I really enjoyed the trip to CA and the opportunity to slide around on the dirt at El Mirage during Ego-Rama 2002 in my '34 coupe.  The trip to Arizona was also a hoot.  I know that all of the folks I've talked to enjoy the opportunity to visit places like the Pacific Coast and the NHRA museum.  A trip to Texas would also be great for me but I have spent quite i bit of time in California anyway.  By the way Kevin, after the ride in my sedan in Bakersfield last year what did you decide to use under the front end of your sedan?
