Quote from: "river1"yes i'd like to see pics.

BUT before you start removing parts do your due diligence and see if you can find out who owns it, it may only look abandoned.

later jim

No worries Jim, I know the land owner.  I'll try to get some pics tonight.

Rodder's Roundtable / Packard Thunderbolt Straight 8
August 02, 2007, 10:37:04 PM
Hello all,

Today I discovered an old Packard Clipper sitting on the shoreline of a local lake.  What I would like opinions from you guys on is the Thunderbolt straight 8 that's in this thing.  It would not be easy to get to at all, so I'm wondering if it's worth the effort?  I'm assuming it's stuck, but is it worth anything?

BTW, from the research I've done on the car it appears it's a 1953.  If you want, I could take a walk again tomorrow and get some pics.

Take care, Shawn

I have searched and searched :?  :?  and am having a heck of a time.  I need the 25 spline pinion yoke that will accept the 3-5/8 u-joint (I believe this is known as the 1350 series??).  I've searched the net but cannot find anything that calls out this combo.  I think I can get the u-joint with the smaller end for this rear but have heard that these won't hold up as well.  Any advise is appreciated.

Thank you much,  Shawn

I'm getting closer to my goal of firing this thing up before the snowballs are flying.  Here's some pics of the last two weeks or so of work.  Bought some new motor mounts, modified them and the frame so the headers would clear.  Have had that motor in and out about 6 times now

Thanks for lookin' and the words of encouragement.  I don't do much posting here but lurk quite often.  I'll keep putting pictures on with the progress made.  And Joe...........you bet your sweet patooty I can't wait to crack this thing off!

It sure is purty :D   Still undecided on what to slap on for a carb.  Progress has been slow but steady this summer, still think we'll have it running this fall though.

I'm not a real fan of flames but this one really stood out.  It looked like this '32 Dodge was actually on fire!  We were at the show on Friday for about 6 hours, didn't see half of 'em but this one was my favorite of the thousands we did see.  Picked up a few items for myself (mufflers, bear claw latches) and of course had a footlong hotdog!  It certainly gives a guy a little more motivation to work on his own rig when you hit a show, especially when you see your model and the wife says "yours could look like that someday" :P .  All in all a fun day at the show and looking forward to the day I can take mine.  Take care all.

Had a local shop do the bends and got the new firewall tacked into place Saturday night, slow but steady progress.  I'll finish welding it in complete with the long weekend coming up and then on to the floor pan.  I love it.  I can just take a whole night and stare at the thing wondering what/where/when I should do next.

Wondering if anyone is heading to the Twin Cites for Back to the 50's weekend (June23 thru 25).  It's been a few years since I went down but what a blast!  It's held at the State Fairgounds and all they let in is '64 and older, at least that's what it was the last time I went.  Turn out is typically 10,000 plus.  Walk around a full eight hours and you don't see half of them.  Gets to the point halfway thru the day when it seems like you're walking thru a Walmart parking lot.  Unless something grabs your eye (awesome paint job or motor sticking three feet out the hood for example) it's just another vehicle.  One year they had a Barney Fife impersonator, complete with squad car, that drove around and got out at intersections to direct traffic.  That's one of the fun parts too, people constantly cruising the streets, rumbling by as your walking.  Vehicles from opening stages of resto (barely street legal) to the high dollar ones that probably came to the fairgrounds in a trailer.  They also have a gondola ride that you can take thru the grounds so you can get the overhead view.  Swappers meet was on Sunday, don't know if that's still the case.  Go to www.msra.com to check it out.  Anyway, hope to hear from anyone planning on going.

I called the Speedometer Shop in Riverside, CA about doing the upgrade on my gauges (40 Mercury).  $1500    with a two to three month turn around.  Don't know if that is their standard price, but if you want to stay original it probably isn't a bad price.  A buddy of mine had the gauges redone on his motorcycle and it cost him almost that much.  A guy could cut the dash, put an insert in and have some nice gauges and maybe a grand left in your pocket but like I mentioned it all depends on if you want to stay original

Rodder's Roundtable / For Crosley
May 10, 2006, 01:07:21 PM
Quote from: "Crosley"there was a service bulletin on noises caused by the water rushing through the heater core.

Seems like a restrictor plug was placed in the heater hose

Crosley, my Dad finally got this fixed and this was the problem.  Thanks for the info  :D

Here's some pics of my Merc.  Bought the car in '96 and farted around with the frame and motor/tranny until 2000.  Nova subframe and rearend.  Built a 388 Stroker/350 Turbo to plop in when we get to that point.  Yesterday my Dad and I finally drug her back into the garage and made a vow that when it goes back to the shed this fall it will be under her own power.  Hard to believe I've had the car 10 years and it still looks like this.  Thanks for looking and this summer I hope I can post some pics of me whippin' cookies in the neighbors yard.
