That looks like a trainer for an ex-racer.  Needs more motor.

Rodder's Roundtable / 352 FE ford?
April 22, 2005, 01:06:37 PM
The fe series has the side on the intake manifold under the valve cover about 1". This series starts out in 1958. Was produced in the following sizes: 332,352,360,390,410,406,427,428. Are thsy a good engine? Not as powerful as newer models, pretty heavy, limited aftermarket parts, kinda pricey.  Those of us that grew up with them found them to be reliable, common for parts. They respond to upgrades well.

If you have a leakdown meter, plumb it in, back it off to zero and start rasing the pressure. Just note where it opens and you're done.

Sorry for the extra work. I really like your idea. I've seen about a thousand track t's but not one truck. Plus, I'm a truck guy. Never know when you might need to haul something. Parts, beer, pretty girls, new toys, etc.

Looking good. Good luck with the color match. If you were me, you'd be figureing out how much you have to repaint because you know it doesn't match.

Rodder's Roundtable / Is copper the new red?

Boy, I really agree with the "mixing all the paint together" part.  I'm going to have to repaint the box on the 53 because of lack of planning on my part.

Rodder's Roundtable / cam recommendation ?
April 12, 2005, 10:24:50 PM
2 more options. More work, not much money. 1st, solid copper head gaskets. Should be available up to 80 thousandths thick.  Do the calculations to see how many ccs you need to gain to drop the comp. 2nd, pull the pistons and machine off some dome.  Depending on which piston is in the motor, this may be a good or poor option. IMHO, the best answer is to lower the c.r. to 9 or less. If you do this now, you can pick any cam and have good results. You want more low end, less cam. You want more top end, more cam. No longer worrying about detonation caused by too high of static comp.  I ran the copper gaskets on my race cars forever. That would be the simplest fix in my world. If you put on the thick head gaskets, you'll also need thicker intake gaskets. Good luck. I have a similar cam in my 8.5 truck engine and I'm very pleased with the all around performance. No pinging on 87 octane.

Pardon my lack of memory. Back in the late 70's or eraly 80's, I saw one of these at a NSRA event. I think it is an English Austin but my memory is so poor about this that I may all wrong.  I suppose if I took the next 2 weeks and looked through photos I might find it. I don't remember alot about it except it had the same wheels.

What could possibly be wrong with open headers. Just enough cam to be lumpy. How about a light flywheel so it sounds like a full race anything.  A guy at breakfast asked me if I had a collection of tickets for speeding. My reply was, " no, just for no mufflers". Love the sound. Standing in the shutdown area at the strip, listening to blown alky cars coming down, hearing the blower scream, hard to beat.  What's not to be enthused about?

Does anybody know where I can find a 322 Buick block that will clean up at 40 over?

Wow. In my 20 years of drag racing , I've never seen or heard anything like that.  That's just terrible.
