Rodder's Roundtable / non metallic carb spacers
July 26, 2010, 09:54:24 AM
I have had this problem in the past as well. I bought an aluminum heat shield and a couple of 3/8" fiber spacers/gaskets and it took care of the problem completely. I believe the parts were from Mr Gasket, though you could make the heatshield yourself.

Although it's been a few years, I bought  a van oilpan along with the correct pickup and mount from the dealer. I don't remember how much I paid but it was pretty reasonable. You might check there.

Rodder's Roundtable / eBay parts auctions

Quote from: "paul2748"The big freight charges are nothing but additional profit some of these sellers add on.  It has no reality to cost of shipping.
This is so true. Often times I will find what appears to be a good deal. After figuring in the freight and handling, I can get it a lot cheaper locally, plus, I won't get my money stolen.

Rodder's Roundtable / What was he thinking?
July 17, 2010, 09:43:07 AM
I thought WE had all the crummy drivers down here. I guess there is plenty to go around. I wish the state would ban bad drivers from the road...I sure would be lonely, being the only one left driving.  :D

Rodder's Roundtable / The end
July 16, 2010, 10:03:39 AM
Frank, thanks for choosing to keep the doors open a little longer. Maybe we can ressurrect the site. I have been guilty of being more of a lurker than a particpant for sometime. I'm going to try to change that. I have met two of my best friends here, Granddadeo, and the late Casa J. When I checked in and saw your plans to pull the plug, it was like coming home to find your home burned to the ground.
Count me in when it comes to appreciating what you and Frank Jr. have done to keep this site going.
I have to confess, I too, rarely log in when I visit the site. Generally, I only log in when I've got something to say. You may not see me, but I am here quite often.

One37tudor, I agree with you. I frequent the HAMB, but I am put off by the anti-streetrod sentiment there. I guess that group doesn't realize that their cars fit in the "street rod" catagory as defined by Tex Smith et al when the NSRA was formed. However, I do believe that the so-called traditional movement will eventually fade, as did the ghost flames, ultra smooth look and pastel paint jobs have done. The traditional formula has been layed out and the cars are beginning to all look the same. Soon, it will be just another ho-hum look.

Anyone know where I can buy one?

I have my compressor out in my shed, about 20 feet from my garage. I too, used PVC pipe and buried it. That was about 7-8 years ago and no problems to report. It sure keeps the noise in the shop at a lower level. Now my wife can hear me curse when something doesn't go right.

Rodder's Roundtable / Bad Cylinder head or gasket?
April 17, 2010, 04:15:59 PM
Rob, if you need to replace both heads, I see that Summit has assembled Vortecs for approx. $20 apiece more than what you were looking at. Granted, you'd have to replace the intake manifold, but you'd be looking at a very substantial increase in power.

Rodder's Roundtable / Cowl Steering
March 14, 2010, 05:25:35 PM
There is a mess of info on cowl steering on the HAMB message board. A lot of different boxes are used along with a number of mounting setups. I'd do a search over there.

Welcome aboard! This is my favorite site, although I don't post very often. Great bunch of folks here. Some of the other sites do get pretty opinionated about what is acceptable hot rodding. Not here, it's kinda like coming home after visiting the other site. Again, welcome!
