that's a neat looking Econoline.  Those van-ups are getting really popular, I had no idea too many were ever made, even though they are rare, ther are many more of those available than vans right now.  Guess the "hippies" and vanners of the 60's & 70's took care of those  8)

I don't know what year they made the doghouse bigger, but your post tells me a v6 shouldn't have any problems fitting.

Love those teardrop trailers

since everybody's talking about their projects,  sold the Model A, rode in a 60 chevy wagon for a  while,  then a 76 vette.  All those are gone now and I bet I'm the only one here working on a 64 Econoline van!  LOL

Gonna try to re-live my teenage years in the 70's, but with some current touches.  Just found a  chevy v6 form an S10 (if it'll fit in the dog house), with overdrive tranny.

Plans are for  the box to be  lowered over big inch wheels.  It's at a buddy's body shop right now getting some of the bigger work done, and maybe this weekend we'll start on the motor transplant, (or rebuild).

Hopefully will be driving it to Myrtle Beach for the Run to the sun, in March.

Rodder's Roundtable / old Firebirds

I think the Rockford was around a 74 or 75.  One of the companies that makes diecast cars was going to introduce the Rockford edition but the network wouldn't license the car,  I think they have that model but not the rockford (brown?) color

Bandit's Trans Am was a 77 in the first movie (had one just like it in 77), and in the second Smokey and the Bandit movie, it was I believe a 79.

I was thinking about it and you don't see many of the 70ish to 76's at car shows around here either.  Probably the  73 was my favorite.

Rodder's Roundtable / A little RRT survey
December 05, 2006, 10:22:28 PM
Thanks for the post Vance,  I'm still trying to catch up with everybody and everything, plus working two jobs and working on my cars, don't seem to get around to posting even though I check in often.

I'll try to do better and measure  up to the RRT standards, LOL

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: Lack of posting
November 27, 2006, 03:03:12 PM
Guess I'll put my 2 cents in also.   I've been a member here for quite a while, migrated over when one of the other sites got too hostile.

I posted some here, always went to chat every Sunday night, until my wife and I purchased a cabin at the lake.  We always left the lake and went to work on Monday morning, so I didn't have internet access on sunday night.  Later on, one Sunday night I dropped in,  but I realized than no-one there knew who I was.   I lurked for a while and dropped out.

I never have posted much because if it's a mechanical related question, there are so many here that have more knowledge. I don't want to show my ignorance.

And after such along time away I'd feel like an outsider posting a question, photos or telling about my new projects.  So I guess that's put me on permanent lurking status.

Rodder's Roundtable / What Rear?
December 27, 2004, 05:30:01 PM
The rear end of my 60 Chevy wagon has started grinding like a wheel bearing is going out.  I called my local NAPA store, (friends) and priced the bearings, well over $100.00 each, plus the seals.

I'm thinking maybe I should look into a later model rear  instead of putting all this work into a 45 year old one.   I haven't measured anything yet, but does anybody know of a later model rear end that would be a direct bolt in, or simple swap?

Thanks

Rob

Rodder's Roundtable / Re-introduction
December 20, 2004, 10:22:19 PM
Even though I've been a member here for a while, I don't often post.   I dropped in last night on chat (after taking the summer off) and some of the regulars didn't remember my name.

My name is Rob White, my wife and I live just outside of Augusta Georgia.   Last winter I finished up a Model A roadster and spent the summer driving and showing it.  The car placed in every local show it was in, a first for one of my  cars.

This October I traded it for a 60 Chevrolet  wagon, green and silver with candy green flames.  350 crate engine, 700R4 tranny, vintage air, dakato digital, cruise and 17"polished american wheels.  We're looking forward to driving it to shows in Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolina, and maybe to Cherokee Tenn. in 2005, maybe we'll meet some of you on the road.

Between the cars, two granddaughters being born, and buying our retirement (someday) home at Lake Thurmond this summer,  I haven't spent much time on the computer the last few months. Now that winter has settled in, I guess I'll be spending more time at the computer, hopefully catching up with and getting to know some of you better.

Rodder's Roundtable / first local show of the season

maybe the only good thing that came out of it, I have always named my cars and was struggling with naming this one.  But, now "dilla killa" seems to fit!  LOL

Rodder's Roundtable / first local show of the season
April 27, 2004, 07:05:39 AM
This past saturday was our first local show of the year.  It was held in a small town about 20 miles or so away.  I spent the better part of Thursday and Friday nights making sure the model A was as ready as it could be.

Saturday I was leading a group of three cars when I saw a dead armadilla (is that how it's spelled?) laying in the road.  Just like my daddy taught me 30 years ago, I moved over to straddle the dead animal, thinking he'd just simply pass under the car.  WRONG, my daddy never drove anything with dropped spindles I guess.  There was a gawd awful splat, then in my rear view mirror I watched tiny pieces of armadilla scattering all over the road.

When we got to the show grounds I pulled over just inside of the gate to check for damage.  There was no body damage, but every cavity on the MII frontend was full of guts and hair.  I got a stick and was able to get the biggest parts of it out of the frontend, then got one of my detail brushes and finished up as well as I could.

After I got registered and finished wiping down the outside of the car, I folded the hood back, there were more guts, everywhere.  The top of the crossmember was full, but this time it was stuck to wires, nuts or anything else that got in the way.  It took me at least another 30 minutes to get the innards out of the engine compartment, the firewall, the underside of the hood, the front of the oil pan, etc.

The smell was still there, so I looked under the car, the front of the gas tank was covered in something that looked like spray on glue, with hairs sticking out of it.  The muffler had stuff on it, the drive shaft , well the entire undercarriage of the car had something on it, almost.

All in all I spent 2 hours and used two full rolls of paper towels wiping what I could reach under my car, and carrying it to the nearest trash can.
Trying all the while trying not to gag while carring the handfulls across the grounds.

Luckily the wind was carrying the smell of my car away from the crowd so most people had no idea what had happened.  I was able to stop by a carwash and clean it up on the way home.

On the plus side I was very suprised that my car took 2nd place in the hotrod/streetrod class, at it's first show since putting it back together.

Quote from: "bombcan"I am on my 4th alternator  and my 2nd voltage regulator on my Ford. Still not charging.  I want to change to a chevy one wire alternator.... Can anybody tell me how to wire it up to a ford?

Thanks
Rob

....a one-wire?............
Bolt it on and hook up your old (heavy gauge) output wire to the back of it.  cover the rest of the wires (so they don't short against the engine) and you're done.

Thanks Skip,  So I can use the existing heavy wire from the back of my alternator, sealing off the the others?   Should I unhook the voltage regulator wires, or does not having the other wires on the back of the alternator take care of this?

I completely rewired a car using your book, but the alternator is still a mystery to me......

Quote from: "jakesbackyard"I got the Galaxie out of storage this weekend and tonight after doing some get ready for cruising work on it...I'm sitting back with a cold one, looking at it and then the A project. I've always wondered what wide whites would look like on the 63 so I swap one front one off the A and slip it on the Galaxie. I'm not sure...I started three years ago with blacks, last year put the skinny whites out....I love wide whites, but 63 is the kind of the year skinnies came around....What do you think?

I guess I'll go against the tide on this one, too.   I like the wide whites.  That body style looks good with whites and the rear dropped slightly.......one clean looking cruiser.

When I purchased my 50 Ford it had brand new skinny whites turned in. I had them turned white side out and it brightened the car up alot.

But like has been said, it's your car I say do what you want (except white letters!)
