Rodder's Roundtable / 200 r4 Transmission
October 31, 2006, 01:27:29 AM
www.ring-pinion.com    and click calculator on the left. Then enter your info,,trans, tire diameter, rear gear and it will calculate the RPMs your will be running and any speed you choose.
My 350/700r4 with a 3:50 gear and a 27" tire runs 1900 RPMs at 60 mph and delivers 21 mpg.
The 700R4 has a super low 1st gear and will really help launch your 3100 lb. mopar. However, mine seems to be building an excessive amount of internal pressure at hwy speeds and often pukes out the overflow. This condition also puts a lot of pressure on the rear seal (new) and pan gasket (new) and puddles my garage floor after its been run.

Any ideas on this problem Crosley??

Rodder's Roundtable / Tranny Coolers
October 31, 2006, 01:12:14 AM
I like a frame mounted alum finned tube cooler. I can't understand the theory of running trans lines into a radiator thats full of 180 degree coolant to cool my transmission. Seems to me that the radiator is nothing more than a 180 degree preheater. Anyway, my tube cooler works great and I ain't gotta deal with any ugly 5/16" hard lines running up to the rad.

However,...............FWI,...
The 700R4 trans (non lockup) was introduced in a 6.2 litre diesel V8 1500 Chev/Gmc suburban in 1982.

PSSSST,......Hey Johnny,............

FYI,...I'm with Grundy also. What impressed me was how friendly, well informed and helpful their staff is. The rates are very competitive and there is no annual mileage restrictions.

How bout milk in glass quarts and when you removed the cardboard tab lid, the cream would be stuck to it?? Or, fireballs, rootbeer barrel balls, real creamsickles and fudgesickles?? Always carring some sort of bottle opener, 6 packs in a carton, or going to the local store to get yer ole man a $.25 pack of Luckys?? Hall monitors and classmate crossing guards, penny candy and Nehi soft drinks?? And goin to the movies ALL DAY Saturdays, buyin Ju Ju Bees, Black Cows, cotton candy or, GoodnPlentys?? OR, taken your new girl to the movies and suddenly realizing it was going to cost $1.50 or maybe, $2.00 that day??
And if you lived in upstate N.Y., it was Friehoffer's Bakery and The Freddie Friehoffer Show everyday. Remember Annette in her Mouseketeer outfit??

It takes a noble man and one of stable fiber to admit a mistake of such magnitude to his peers.

Rodder's Roundtable / SBC Alternator brackets
July 08, 2006, 11:41:15 AM
Have you thought about makin an "S" shaped oil fill/breather tube that would clear the alternator?? No new brakets needed and would look kinda trick on a '60's period sbc.

Rodder's Roundtable / 9" Ford Gear Lube Capacity
July 04, 2006, 09:50:45 PM
I like to fill them so the tip of my forefinger can just make contact with the fluid (80/90 wt.) once bent at the 1st nuckle.
Also, make certain the axel tube vent is clear and unrestricted, or the internal pressure will blow the axel seals, as it will if overfilled.
Dont' forget to add the posi lube 1st, then the gear lube.

Rodder's Roundtable / Coolant leak
July 04, 2006, 09:19:55 PM
After 14 years, the freeze plug has rotted (rusted) from the inside out on your sbc.
Do you really think some miracle snake oil in a bottle will cure this problem?
Take the time to replace the freeze plugs with new ones and flush the cooling system as well.
Or,....keep triple A's ph. # real handy.

Coolant tip.
Remove your rad cap, put the positive lead of your multimeter in the coolant with out touching the rad. Ground the negative lead to the outside of the rad. If your meter reads more than 2/10s of a volt, its high time for a coolant flush. The electralsis is deteriating the exposed metals in your coolant system,......like freeze plugs.

I like Edelbrock's Performer Series 500 cfm for that application. Direct bolt of, set the idle and enjoy.  PN#1403 is the electric choke version, cost bout $280.00 thru Jegs or Summit.
The Edelbrock carbs have another feature the Harleys, oops, I mean Holleys don't have. The don't leak.

OR,.........go to the bone yard and find you an mid (NOT '85) to late 80's Camaro of Firebird and rob the tuned port injection intake, distributor, wiring harness and computer. You'll need an electric fuel pump, 3/8" fuel feed and 5/16" fuel return lines, an in-line fuel filter  and your carb days are over.
Ain't nothin like being directly injected....
