Rodder's Roundtable / Intro and question

It might be an idea to set one up.
We had on one one the old HRI (OZ) it was extremely handy.
though we had some rules on its use.
but there where some very good buys to be had at times.

Sorry for the bump, but I was going back threw archives and found this thread.
I am half threw my 37chev 4dr chop and it hasnt beeen easy.
But I learnt heaps from it but the chop books give some ideas but not enough when it comes to a 4dr like this.

I'll drag up some more notes I have I an complete email I sent to a couple of people ages ago.
but what I can say I went over board but you can get away with a simple design and heaps less work (depends how you look at it).

Rodder's Roundtable / Welding Advice
March 23, 2005, 04:06:31 PM
Boy Stitch welding sounds like a pain in the proverbable. But then I have been speaking to tig welders lately (I was looking in purchasing one) and and several had said they would interested going back to oxy to sheet metall (non ally work) in the end I'll stick with my oxy. I can weld to the cows come home and not have any problems like what you guys mentioned.

thanx for explanation of stitch welding enjenjo I never new why ever time I see tacks like this this is what they were doing.

now I wish I could do a fillet weld with my arc and all my prays are answered.

back to practicing.

ah sorry oxy expert dont even own a mig.
The only thing I can reccommend is turn down the settings and work up.
Same thing happen when I learnt oxy and arc I was too high come from a low settings then build up. I use a arc welder to do the bulk of my welding its all in the settings and hand work.

good luck, it will happen its one of those techniques that just fall into place and bang its plain sailing from there on.

Rodder's Roundtable / measurements on a 28chev pu?

I didnt want to go bigger than 55in as I thought that was starting to stretch it to  far as the back starts to move to close to the kickup area of the chassis.

Rodder's Roundtable / measurements on a 28chev pu?

Do you find the 29in doors to be adequate.
I am building off a tourer chassis, this what I have so far
1. From the cowl witness marks I have the cowl back to 15.5in
2. doors to be 28.5in (which takes me to 44in)
3. another 11in before the rear with a 7in window put in.

I am also channelling it 2in I have been steeling the base out over the weekend to give me a platform to work off.

53.5 boy that is wider than expected looks like I will have widen it some more I was look at around 42in hmm.
thanx for that I need to work out an acceptable body curve of it.

Though I am having trouble finding an existing cab, let only I want some doors so I have set out to build a cab. Now I have model A and 31 pickups specs assuming they would be close to a chev but its looking like the chev is smaller which I find strange.

anyhow I currently have a chev 28 cowl which at the end of the cowl it is around 33in wide at the base of the chassis. (the chassis is 31 at this point)

What I need is some measurements at some points
 1. at the middle of a typical pu door what is the width on the outside of the cab.
 2. as I want to create my doors upto 28.5in long so can some provide me with a width accross the entire cab at the end of doors. please specify how long yours doors are please.

thanx all

Hey while we are on the same topic for my SII front end I am missing the rack, are they same for all models? Or has anyone got a cheap replacement for them?

Series II are the ones you are after around 78 to mid 80's but I believe series 3 are the same as well.  Series I are still ok but jaguar upgrade the brakes on series II.

I have one (sII) to go in my 37chev but I am questioning if it will bring the front end down low enough though, you can get lowered springs for them but I still have a feeling its not going to be the ride height I am after.

And yes with Britsh the racks are prone to leaking and need to be rebuilt. As for prices everyone has told me there is always a way to get around the prices being asked for original stuff.
